NBA trivia thread

Post#1 » by prolific passer » Thu Aug 27, 2020 5:32 am

A thread that ask questions about the nba and it's history and you have to try to answer it without having to try look it up. If you do it doesn't matter because it's all fun.
I'll start with 2 questions.
Who were the 2 HOF centers who had to play backup to 2 other HOF centers early in their careers?
Who is the only team in nba history to have both their center and power forward averaged 16+ rpg in the same season?

Good luck and enjoy.

Nate and Wilt in 1964/65 season, although they didn't finish the season together. Playing against them under the boards had to be terrifying experience.

I hope to get 3 Warriors games from that season in the next week ;)

:D
terrifying is right.i imagine nate asking dipper way above the rim if he could get that ball as it would be his 27th rebound and big wilt just answering "no no i have to eat and drink enormous bottle of seven up laters" while going for board number forty.opposing rebounders watching from underneath the hoop in total shock :D

Feels like cheating but Moses Malone backed up Bob McAdoo in Buffalo for 2 games before John Y. Brown was able to deal him off for almost nothing (John Y also dealt off ROY Adrian Dantley and former MVP Bob McAdoo both for very little within that 12 month period then, having destroyed the team, somehow traded it even up for the Boston Celtics).

Nate and Wilt, of course, answers both questions, though again, seems like cheating since it wasn't for a full season together.

Nate and Wilt played together when Nate was a rookie in 63-64. The other guy was a decade earlier.

I'm not sure at all since bkref doesn't list games started for these old seasons but HoF center Arnie Risen was on the Celtics for Russell's rookie year. Did Russell have to back up Risen at first?

I think Russell started from almost the game he joined the team; the Celtics used Risen (and later HOFer Clyde Lovellette) as backups to Russell.

Here's a 3rd question. Who are the only 2 centers to put up 20ppg 10rpg and 7apg in a season?

Who are 3 players who had the nickname "Kangaroo Kid" used by newspapers at some point or another?

Hints: one was earlier than Billy C, one was later. One played at Billy C's alma mater.

So you aren't buying the Moses Malone thing. :P

Assume Mikan-Lovellette Lakers is wanted.

And Jim Pollard is the other main one Kangaroo Kid ((with Cunningham), a third doesn't, ahem, leap to mind.

Lovellette is correct. Now for my 2nd question. Anybody got any answers?

And upon searching Basketball-Ref doesn't acknowledge the third (only the two above and "the Kangaroo" Zaid Abdul-Aziz (nee Don Smith) not that their nicknames are always spot on.

I could buy it for Bobby Jones as a UNC leaper (and white which "Kangaroo Kid" is a pretty white nickname to my ear, and non modern but after Cunningham). Can't see any reference to it though, (i.e. google just mentions Cunningham coaching Jones as Jones-KK connection).
