Well, AD's current year is better than any Karl Malone season, so go figure...

Duncan, KG, Dirk, Giannis, AD... Those are my Top 5 PF peaks... Unless you wanna call Duncan and AD Centers, which wouldn't technically be wrong. In that case those two get replaced by Chuck and Malone.

Not to take anything away from AD, who is playing great, or from John Stockton for that matter.....but man, would Karl Malone look great playing next to Lebron. A little perspective is in order.....

Perspective is definitely needed. Karl Malone has had great elite playoff series before. I'm not sure AD will ever have a better series than Malone vs Sonics in 92

Yeah, this is another overreaction thread and nothing else.

It makes imo 100x more sense to do this poll after the playoffs are over and we see that AD has accomplished because as we all know that is the biggest knock on Malone. That he couldn't fully carry a team when he needed to. If AD finishes these playoffs out playing at roughly the same level he did in the first two rounds and wins a ring then that sort of answers the question imo. Answering it right now leaves too much to be revealed and is the wrong time to ask the question.

Pre Lebron Anthony Davis had averaged 31.5 ppg on 54% shooting and 30 ppg on 52% shooting in the playoffs. Not like he was a bum in the playoffs....

You can say the same for Malone, he benefitted greatly playing next to an all time, underrated PG in Stockton.

Fact of the matter is Malone's offensive game always got exposed in the playoffs. His efficiency plummets more than any other all time great I have ever seen. D Rob also suffers from this but not to the extent as the mailman. There is a reason why the child raper had a reputation for not showing up on Sundays.

The Mailman's game was not built for the playoffs, his offensive game was predictable and easily shut down with real defensive game planning.

Karl Malone in RS=57.7 TS%.

Karl Malone in PS=52.6 TS%

I have never seen another top 20-30 player all time drop off so bad in the playoffs.

He fails in terms of eye test, stats test and even other players clowned him for his bad playoff play.

Like Pippen said, the mailman doesn't deliver on Sunday. Yea Karl Malone had a few great series but on average his postseason play was bad relative to his normal play.

He surpassed him in 2018 in my book.

True, but AD was doing this before LeBron too. The next bad playoff series AD has would be his first. No team has yet managed to shut him down, with or without LeBron. And that includes multiple series against Draymond and the Warriors.

He always destroyed Draymond but Kevon Looney gave him alot of problems on postups and isos. Not sure what the matchup numbers were but he def shut him down or close to it when he guarded him. Ad had a 53ts that series FWIW



Just game 1 but i remember alot of the series going like that when Looney was matched up

Karl Malone actually had dominant bigs he had to play against as well. AD does not. Karl Malone used to abuse David Robinson in the playoffs as well. What would AD do against him for example?

But Malone lost with HCA multiple times in his career.
