Marc as a vet minimum signing (to add a savvy big body to the roster) is one thing. Trading away players and clearing space for him is another.

I say no dice.

I think you're overthinking it a bit. Gasol is just so much more skilled than JaVale. And he's only 3 years older than him. Gasol is 35, which is old by NBA standards, but not ancient. His shooting and passing would be really welcome and his positional awareness on defense more than makes up for less athleticism.

He is a better and (far) smarter player, if he is not cooked. The problem is that he may in fact be cooked.

I would feel far more comfortable if he was being signed at the vet minimum to join McGee.

That way, if he surprises you with what he can still do, you start him and make McGee your third string (insurance) big. If you find out that he is indeed cooked, you stash him at the end of your bench, then utilize his big body and smarts against the likes of Jokic and Embiid.

That is my point. Maybe I am overthinking it a bit, but its a point worth considering.

If Gasol is acquired, hopefully Markieff Morris can be retained and an athletic, defensive big (Biyombo) can be stashed at the end of the bench for the vet minimum.

I would be satisfied with that.

Even though Gasol looked totally washed against the Celtics, there was still a big difference in how Tatum, Brown, etc attacked the rim when Gasol was on the floor vs when he was off.

The Lebron Thread | 2021 & Offseason

The Raptors seem in need of a big to me. Maybe the Lakers can just trade McGee to the Raptors for a resigned Gasol directly.

...

If the Raptors are in tank mode and just want assets, I wonder how vets like Lowry will feel about that?

Would easily attach 2 2nds to Mcgee if it meant getting Gasol

Cmon Rob, get this **** done.

Wouldn't move AC

Would consider moving THT or even Kuzma (if it meant also receiving something back)

McGee is a non-factor for postseason, Gasol may be impactful. Bigger reward than risk.

But yeah, I'd agree that Marc isn't as good as some people think, but he's also not as bad as bubble would suggest. Signing him for vet min would be obviously better, but if Lakers can have Gasol in exchange for McGee, then I don't see many arguments it isn't good move. Even if Gasol is done, Harrell is good enough addition for regular season to do what JaVale did best last year.

Lakers are attaching a 2nd round pick with McGee. So it looks like basically a 2nd rounder just to take Mcgees salary is what it boils down to

Pelinka really killed it this off season. If Gasol is still an effective floor spacer and rim protector I've got a strong feeling this iteration of the Lakers is gonna be LeBron's best team ever. Been reading and some Raptors fans think he was low key more effective than Serge. He just can't handle a lot of minutes but LA only needs him for like 20 a night

Well sure. Buy why the Cavs specifically? McGee does nothing for us and it's only a 2nd round pick lol. It's just confusing.

Don't really know these two players (Bell is trash tho), but at least they're bodies.

Edit: nvm, Won said they're on non-guarantees i.e. they're going to be waived

Yeah, otherwise the trade wouldn't really make sense

My guess is the whole league had a standing offer to have a free 2nd rounder for taking McGee’s 4.2 mil expiring deal and the Cavs were the ones to bite. I don’t think this had anything to do with McGee and the Cavs valuing him at all.

But why do we bite on these type of things, I just don't get it lol. Since we've litterally done nothing in FA I guess it's just to get our name on twitter or something honestly.

Especially to give up 2 players on cheap deals that might actually be useful? I just don't get it. Don't think a 2nd rounder is worth this.

Pelinka needs to re-sign Kieff, and maybe Dudley for that locker room chemistry, and then put a bow on this off-season and take a vacation. It's pretty incredible what he's done this off-season considering the team is coming off a championship. I can't remember the last time a champion revamped their team this drastically.
