Ben is only good at shooting wide open 3s and the current Hou team sucks, so no more open 3s

He should do great, but I wonder who will lose time

When Lebron and AD are back:

Less time for Kuzma and Kieff

Likely need to cut THT out mostly, can play heavy minutes if Lebron sits a game.

We should cut some of those KCP and Wes minutes too

Dennis, Pope, Lebron, AD, Drummond
AC, Mclemore, 2 of Wes, Kuzma, Kieff, Trez
THT and Gasol

13 guys who will want to play

Lmao if you think Mclemore is taking minutes away from THT/Kuzma or Kieff. If anything he cuts into Mathews and KCPs some.

Not sure how much THT plays in the playoffs once AD, Bron, and Drummond are back. We will need shooting and he doesn't provide that at all

Kuzma shooting 35% from 3 after a hot start, Kieff around 34% after a miserable start where he was barely playing

Kieff is a better 3 point shooter and was actually shooting well last playoffs, but Kuzma is a more versatile defender and scorer

I would trust Kieff more if I had to pick 1 of those 2 to play in the playoffs if Lebron and AD are locked in on D

Everything is matchup related though, but I really think we need to play Mclemore some actual minutes

What do you guys think about this?

Say AD comes back in 10-14 days

It will be about 2 months from his injury

Is that enough time?

KD took about 1 month off and then got hurt immediately

I wonder if we could hang on a bit more, but time is running out sadly

Very important for the lakers to not make the same mistake that the warriors with KD in 2019 .... I don't want to see AD out for the entire 2022 season ... The difference, KD had only had 1 month off after his injury vs Houston and it was an elimination game in the finals after only one pratice when he was back .... In AD's case, he will have had over 2 month off and the lakers can limit his minutes from the start when he will be back. The doctors need to make the right decision in his case. One thing is sure,I will be very nervous at the start when he will be back not matter what.

Who knows? Some times even the professionals can't predict further injuries until the person gets on the court. Keep a guy out too long and you're facing atrophy of the inactive muscles especially if the person sucked with their effort at rehab. I think it might be better to hold him out till Lebron is back so he isn't thrown into 40% usage. That might be the plan here

Wes has been playing well, but he especially pairs well with LeBron. For example, though he has been +12.3, almost all of it is with LeBron on court. Without LeBron, he’s only +.5 during this time period.

If you look at the two man pairings:

Wes+LeBron: +12.3
Wes+Gasol: +6.9 (-9.1 without Lebron)
Wes+Caruso:+6.8 (-4.0 without LeBron)
Wes+Kuzma: +5.0 (-4.1 without LeBron)
Wes+KCP: +2.2 (-6.1 without LeBron)
Wes+THT: +1.0 (-8.5 without LeBron)
Wes+Schroeder: -.9 (-12.2 without LeBron)
Wes + Morris: -1.1 (-17.8 without LeBron)
Wes + AD: -10.2 (-21.3 without LeBron)

Does anyone this year even have a positive rating without Lebron? One of the reasons I get fed up using impact stats on roleplayers on Lebron's teams is they are just a table for who plays the most minutes with him. If you're the GM of another team wanting to trade for one of them you won't be getting much help from there

I guess the absence of AD and LeBron might be a blessing in disguise. The rest gets the opportunity to learn how to operate without them making it easier to bench LeBron and AD during the play offs.

I forgot that the Lakers have their pick this year as the pick was protected 8-30 and unprotected next season. So a minor advantage of LeBron missing time could be that they go from late 20s to early 20s with that one.

Their offense is brutal which is normal and expected, but their defense is still elite!

I think Brooklyn should be heavy favorites over the Lakers if they meet in the finals. With Lakers this year it feels if they go down on 15-20 it will be a wrap with their crap shooting. Meanwhile if Nets are down 15-20 they will be able to erase that gap in minutes with some shooting.

Also the Lakers won't be able to double or trap anyone really here. Nets have good passers at almost every position, the Lakers will have to mostly play the Nets 1 on 1 and just hope that the iso ball percentages work in their favor but even that might not work considering the greatness of their big 3 as iso scorers.

The bolded is why I also lean towards the Nets. I recall that against the Rockets in the bubble Lakers players didn't actually show any ability to stay in front of Harden, they won through scheming that was helped by Westbrook being a bit of a dummy in the 4v3. Replace him with KD in the exact same setup and that particular scheme might be shredded.

Because of their five out offense this year's Nets cant really be schemed much beyond playing good defense in the 5 individual defensive matchups. There'll be zero to little room to hide anyone on defense, no trapping, no doubling. I also don't know if a team like that can be beaten 4 times. However of all 29 opponents the Lakers defense has the best chance

To be honest though I don’t mind the Lakers forcing the Nets to play ISO-ball because:

1) They should easily win the rebounding battle on both ends
2) The Lakers should do the exact same thing to the Nets by giving them a heavy dose of post-up offense (ie. LeBron and AD) and forcing them to defend without fouling, which I don’t think the Nets will be able to do well.

When Lebron and AD come back their defense is about to turn historically great. It's just that the Nets offense potentially projects to match that. Nets have some 5 man lineups that can obliterate any kind of help D. Will be all individual which Lakers are also best at, but still...

All you can ask is for them to compete in games like this, so it's very encouraging to only be down 3 heading into the 4th, win or lose.

Rondo played one of his better regular season games in a while tonight. Rondo being able to make open jumpers now gives him an added dimension that we saw last year in games in which he was effective. Doubt any team thinks about rotating out to him
