They say 2-3 weeks from practicing but I don't expect to see him in any games for 2-3 months. At least. Pointless to play him at 300+lb if you want him to be healthy next season.

He’s about one injury away from being an afterthought, because he’ll obviously gain weight again once that happens. It’s not looking too bright honestly. But I’d love for him to prove me wrong, he’s such an exciting player.

Dude might legit eat himself out of the league.

Let's assume he doesn't come back 100% this year.
Would you offer him the designated rookie extension?

I think he'll be fine. He didn't break his foot. He broke his fifth metacarpal bone prior to training camp.

The thing is just to monitor how his game is at 300lbs. If he changes his game to accommodate his current build, say getting low post skills and giving up his vertical game, then I think he can have a productive career.

That would be possible but to what degree can he tame his own body to play that way? The amount of pressure being exerted on his joints with his combination of weight and explosiveness might still be too much. To me letting him play at over 280-285 is just silly. It's just asking for another season ending injury to happen. I think he has to be weighed every week and told that if he comes in at over 280 he is benched until he can get back under. It's not like NO is going anywhere this season anyhow. If it takes until next season for him to get under 280 then so be it.

I don't read that as him being close. I read it as them having to do updates and wanting to give the impression he is making progress. All of it means nothing until he is actually playing in games. If they rush him out there at 290-300lb they aren't going him any favors.

I didn't say anything about knowing what his weight is. What I said is that if they let him play at 290-300 they aren't going him any favors. What I and many if not most people who post here think though is that based on what we saw of him a few weeks ago he was easily over 300lb.

"easily over 300lb" yeah, no. Also he's playing in December, whether he's overweight or not. Taking another 2-3 months my ass

ok, so you take umbrage somehow at me saying he weighed over 300 like a month ago because there's no way for me to know that yet you can declare with certainty that he weighed or weighs under 300 at the moment? That doesn't seem like a huge double standard in your mind? You are guessing the same way anyone else is. You don't know for certain he will be playing in Dec either. I doubt even the Pelican's own trainers have a good idea of when he will be back on the court in a real game right now. Assuming he will be back in shape this month doesn't mean it will actually happen.

no i don't know for certain he'll be playing in December. But there's a difference between making educated guess and just straight up outlandish speculation. There's no way it's taking another 2-3 months for him to step on the court, I'm telling you that now. Barring some injury setback, that will not happen

also, no i'm not taking umbrage with saying he might be at or just under 300. I take umbrage with looking at a video of a guy in a long sleeved shirt and a hoodie with likely more layers of clothing moving side to side and declaring him "easily" over 300lbs. As far as I can tell Zion was 280-290 last season. You're really gonna suggest he looks like he could have gained 30 - 40 lbs?

Yes, that is absolutely what I'm doing. As are I would say a large majority of bb fans/commentators. Gaining 40 lb over 6-8 months while he was recovering from injury is hardly some crazy take on this. You just seem like you are in a huge state of denial over all of this which is fine. It really makes no difference to me but I hope he's able to get back down to 280 and stay healthy.

don't care whether or not it makes a difference to you. He's not 320 - 330. A large majority of bb fans/commentators churn out casual takes and overreact to every little thing they see on the regular. But somehow i'm delusional, not becuase I don't think he's gained weight (i do), but because I don't think he weighs the same as prime Shaq. In that case, Im fine with being delusional.
