like if you had access to all nba players in history. which 3 man combination (spexyfing for which era) would dominate the most? assuming average role players after the top 3
or put another way which would be your ultimate big 3 to make a dinasty even without anyone particularly good for depht?

Bill Russell, Lebron James and Michael Jordan. Who are also the top 3 players of all time imo.
90s or 2000s could be good.

I think dropping young Magic, Kareem and Bird in about 1985 would be pretty good. I chose 1985 because the league was still fast from then until about 96 and would be more friendly to Bird for 3pt shooting than the early 80's were. Also all 3 could play as offensive anchors so not much drop off when you sit one or two at a time. Plus young Kareem can anchor the defense for a good 10-12 years. Taking Magic over Steph because I like how he could impose his game more in the playoffs plus less injury prone.

Jordan/Bird/Garnett in the mid/late 2000s

LeBron, KG, West.
Going for maximum versatility on offense and defense. On offense, this team has on and off-ball creation, passing, and shooting. And on defense, every player is a top 5 defender at their position and can guard multiple positions.
Also, the synergy is perfect. LeBron plays the 4 and has space to operate inside given the shooting of West and KG. Plus, West and KG are perfectly fine playing off-ball. On defense, this is the perfect switching team.

16 Lebron, 61/63 Russell, 66/68 Wilt in the early 60's; contend 80W.
Edit: First one was pace profit situation. And also need to make space one; Curry, West, Dirk in the 2021, over of 15 SRS and 75W.

I think the second team would be better with Garnett than Dirk. Dirk isn't really going to be able to maximize the off-ball movement of Curry due to being worse as a screener and passer when compared with Garnett.

Jordan
Pippen

I think they could legitimately hold teams to 70PPG over a season......

I see the obvious advantages of KG's defense and passing. But Dirk is arguably the best PNR big of all-time. There is zero issues with him as a screener. Even if you tell me the slighter KG sets a firmer pick than Dirk which isn't something I've noticed, there is really no argument he's a more effective screener in terms of how defenses will react to him. Surprised to see screening singled out here.

You're right. Both Garnett and Dirk are tier-0 in terms of pick and roll big men.

Mikan, Arizin, and Davies playing in the early 50s. Mikan absolutely dominated everyone already; add the best wing and the best PG and it could close the league down.

I'd roll with Curry/LBJ/KG and not look back.

We were so close on watching young Hakeem, Jordan and Drexler together on the Rockets.

MJ, Kawhi, Wilt. Mid/late 20s version of each.
Any era before the three point barrage started recently, they win 75+ games/season by an average of 25-30 points/game. Scoring everywhere, playmaking everywhere, without question best defensive squad of all-time. What wing or big is getting a night of good shots off against this team?

My immediate thought is the Big 3 Celtics who harmonized better than any Big 3 I can think of.
So if I take the same model but just go with the rich man’s version of each player:
Paul Pierce -> Michael Jordan
Ray Allen -> Steph Curry
Kevin Garnett -> Kevin Garnett
I will say I’m very tempted to substitute Larry Bird in specifically.
