Is Curry the 2nd Best Player Under 6'9?

Post#1 » by nybluemeadow » Sun Dec 5, 2021 5:03 am

Everybody would have MJ as #1.

Some sites have Lebron listed at 6'9, other sites have him listed at 6'8. It's up to you if you want to put him at 6'8 or not.

The top ten mostly has centers like Wilt, Shaq, Hakeem, Duncan, etc. and 6'9 players like Bird and Magic.

So basically a fancy way of asking if he's better than Kobe? lol this should be interesting.

Don't know much about oscar and west, but much better than Nash and better than Wade for sure too. Wade underachieved playing 2nd to Lebron for too much of his prime.

And if we really wanna get into it I think it's Curry > Kobe too but I don't think most fans are ready to hear that.

No he hasn’t surpassed Kobe, Oscar or West yet. If you’re talking about peak it’s debatable.

wade was arguably the best heat player in 2011, at the very least he was in the finals

and in 2012 he was pretty good as they won a ring. but by then he had already slowed down (it was probably his first "not quite prime, but still close" year )

and by 2013 he was a excelent second option in the regular season until the injury which ended his prime definitely and abruptly

before that he had been fantastic and up there with lebron most years (probably better up to 2006, better playoffs in 2010, worse than lebron in 2009 but still great)

He was primed to win FMVP and extra ring in '11 if Bron hadn't choked and got repeatedly torched by Terry and Barea. Heat won in '12 and '13 and was well out of his prime broken down by '14. In what world did HE underachieve effectively adapting his game after a decade of being the top gun.

I still have West, Oscar and Kobe ahead of him, but he's getting closer and closer. His peak is definitely on that level. People also forget about Julius Erving - he was freaking good.

That said, James and Magic were 6'8 at most, so they are ahead of him.

MJ, Lebron, Magic, Oscar, Kobe, K. Malone, Erving, West.

Lebron definitely isn't 6'9. Bam is a hair under 6'9 barefoot and he's clearly taller than Lebron.

So I said "Yes". Here's how I interpreted your question:

1. I didn't include LeBron. Had I done so, the I would have voted "No".

2. When you said "best", I interpreted that as not worrying about longevity. If this is a career GOAT question, then I'd vote "No".

Probably if we're going by listed heights. I think West, Oscar, Kobe, and maybe Dr. J all have better careers than him so far but his average prime season is better than theirs.

Wade had one prime year with LeBron. He started his steep decline in year two.

Put Wade in this era and the answer is him.
