Defense only, how would you rank the top 10 seasons combined between the two? And if possible, explain your order.

I too am curious about this, and would like people much more knowledgeable than me to contribute lol.
You said to me “I will give you scissor seven fine quality animation".

You left then but you put flat mediums which were not good before my scissor seven".

I would have to imagine basically every season of KG from 02-08 is better than Draymond’s peak defense. Maybe not the 06 or 07 years where his team was so bad and he couldn’t put as much effort on that end.

is hard to imagine any prime season of garnett worst than green in defensive ability, garnett essentially feels like a draymond with much more athletism and size (and shooting/scoring)

but draymond may have been able to put more effort into thw defensive end as he carried less of a scoring load

04 KG is the best and rest comparable.

I'm not sure if a bump helps but would nevertheless be interested in educated answers; I think this thread has lots of potential for insight regarding both of the two players as well as defense in general.

It’d be really interesting to me if we could see the separation between RS draymond in defense and playoff draymond in defense

Draymonds probably the smartest defender ever and that usually translates well to playoffs

Did Russell stop existing?

Even putting him aside, I can’t see him being smarter than Hakeem or KG.

I mean more in a total sense vs relative to era, Russell’s the smartest relative to his era of course, but it’s like a Kawhi vs west or Oscar kind of thing

Draymonds a bulky and reasonably quick 6ft6 dude with decently long arms that’s been the best playoff defender for basically every year he’s made the playoffs fully based off his IQ

It’s hard to gauge IQ but I think saying drays up there is fair, it’s basically his only thing lol

I didn't watch enough prime Garnett to be able to speak to his seasons, but I'm just hopping in to say that I think Draymond's 2021-22 season deserves a lot of love. After his injury he obviously came back hobbled and took a while to get up to speed. But prior to his injury, he played a huge role in the Warriors defending as well as any team had since the Ben Wallace-era Pistons and that was with a starting backcourt of Steph Curry and Jordan Poole. Gary Payton II and Andrew Wiggins are obvious standout defenders from that team, but beyond that, this team didn't boast many elite defenders, unless you wanna throw Kevon Looney into that list too.

Something like

Boston KG => 15-18 PlayoffWarriors Dray > Draymond > Timberwolves KG > Current Dray sounds about right

I’m not a Dray fan at all but I feel he gets underrated a bit defensively I think, would people put Gobert above him?
