Re: Maurice Lucas vs Rasheed Wallace
I have Rasheed slightly higher in actual careers but if I wanted/needed leadership on my team, Mo is clearly the better choice.

Re: Maurice Lucas vs Rasheed Wallace
Rasheed had more talent.
But Lucas worked hard every day and was more physical and did not causes problems except to elbow opposing players.
The legend of Maurice Lucas starts in the 1977 finals. Darryl Dawkins was a man child. Dawkins was not mean but Dawkins had the self restraint of a child. Some one on the Blazers hurt Dawkins and Dawkins was in a frenzy to go fight that player. Dawkins had a super body. Dawkins had great muscles, was 7 foot tall, was athletic and broke backboards. Dawkins had a low basketball IQ but was and a low attention span but was otherwise great.
One of the Blazers accidently hurt Dawkins. Dawkins frilpped and looked like he was going to put a beat down on that Blazer. Then As Dawkins was chasing his target Maurice Lucas shoved Dawkins. Dawkins looked at Lucas who had taken up a boxing stance. Dawkins understood that before he could crush the man that hurt him he would have to fight Maurice Lucas. What if Maurice Lucas knew how to fight? Dawkins was the last man in the 1977 NBA that I would want to fight because Dawkins had the best body. But Maurice Lucas did not look scared. Maurice Lucas looked like he might have fighting skills and Lucas was also big.
The fight never happened. Dawkins was in a frenzy to hurt the man that hurt him but that frenzy was not so intenses that Dawkins was so in a hurry to fight a man that looked like just maybe it might be Lucas hurting Dawkins rather than Dawkins hurting a Blazer.
Up until that Moment the 76ers had been beating the Blazers, then it flipped and it was the Blazers beating the 76ers in 4 straight games. This was the start of the Maurice Lucas legend. Lucas was big but Dawkins was bigger but Dawkins backed down. In theory 3 refs and 8 players stopped the Lucas Dawkins fight from happening but what let them stop the fight was Dawkins hesitatating when he saw that Lucas was willing to fight him.
You would have to be either crazy or a trained martial artist to be willing to fight Dawkins.

I have no opinion but I have heard the story from the media so many times that the Lucas Dawkins fight turned the the series arround.
Because of the media portrayal I had assumed that their had actually been a fight. Then I saw film. A Lucas shove of Dawkins stopped Dawkins from chasing the guy Dawkins wanted to hurt. I forget who Dawkins was actually mad at. Then when Dawkins turns to look at who shoved him he turns to see Maurice Lucas standing in a boxers form ready to fight. Dawkins hesitatated. Dawkins might have attacked Lucas next but 8 guys rushed in to separate them.
Did it really turn the series arround? The series did turn arround but did Lucas being willing to fight Dawkins turn the series arround.
My current position on the media is utter contempt. Sports media goes for clickbait lies over and over but at least sports fans understand the subject. Scientists have said they don't trust the media because whenver the media touches on their fields of expertise the media shows itself to be uninformed and clueless but none the less acts authoritative.
Writers have to crank out content. It is what they get paid for. They don't have to know what they are talking about. In the 1960s there were fact checkers. In the 1960s newspapers were afraid that they woukd lose readers if they were found to be wrong.
Fox and Limbaugh proved in the 1980s that media consumers for the most part want cheerleaders for their side and don't really care about the truth. The corporate Wall Street liberal mainstream media realized Fox and Limbaugh were correct. Learning the truth takes time and is expensive; from a business stand point truth is irrelevant when 90% of the media's audience just wants cheerleding for their tribe's positions. Cheerleading is much cheaper and faster than truth seeking. It makes no business sense for the media to care about the truth.
There might bee a 10% niche market that cares about the truth and will read opposing media sources to try to figure out what the truth is. That little expensive to serve media market is not worth bothering with from the stand point of major media. Outlets like NPR and the BBC have their own agendas to sell. Sounding intellectual and objective may be economically viable but actually being intellectual, objective and infirmed is just too expensive. Proffessional media can concede the truth seeking slice of the market to semi-pro amatuer media that barely cares about making money.
Did the Lucas Dawkins non-fight really turn arround the 76ers Blazers finals. That is coventional wisdom and I don't know how to fact check that conventional wisdom. Or at least I am not willing to spend the time that would be required to fact check that conventional wisdom.
I d think sports media is more accurate than political media or financial media because sports fans aremoore likely to debate each other and fact check sports reporters. But look at all the stupid fake trade rumors and other nonsense from sports media. Me claiming sports media is more accurate than mainstream media is a huge slur against mainstream media because sports media is clearly innacurate.
Lucas Dawkins not quite a fightturned the series arround? That's what they said.

Re: Maurice Lucas vs Rasheed Wallace
There's a story in "Loose Balls" about Lucas first gaining his rep by punching Artis Gilmore . . . even more than Dawkins, a guy people did not want to fight. After that, Lucas wouldn't back down for anyone.
