Where would 30 year old Duncan rank in 2022?

07 Duncan was a cut below his peak form. Top 3 behind Jokic and Giannis for me.

Do you have Duncan ahead of Embiid because of defense?

Yeah I think Duncan is solidly ahead in defensive impact, at least a tier perhaps even 2. Offensively Embiid is clearly superior, but it’s not like his offense has been guard-like in respects to impact. That’s a tall order, but not unfair idt since we’ve seen it with bigs before and even now in the league with Jokic.

I'd take that version of Duncan over 2022 Curry, so likely top 4 with Giannis and Embiid, below Jokic. Depending on postseason run of the rest, he could finish 1st though.

So I guess behind Jokic/Giannis/Embiid/Curry, right? Are you 100% convinced that Embiid and Curry are better? I struggle to compare super-hot scoring version of Joel to conservative version of Duncan.

I'd say top 5. Behind Jokic, Embiid and Giannis but I don't think I'd take anyone else over Duncan. I think the likes of Curry, Luka and Harden have been too inconsistent and LeBron, KD and CP3 will lose too much time to injury to stand a chance.

Yup. I'm not 100% convinced in anyone but Jokic, but I'm fairly confident.

Duncan went 1st in RAPM over prime Dirk, Kobe, Nash and Wade among others, while also leading his team to the title. Has Embiid really ever shown that level of impact?

No, not yet - but the numbers are similar enough that I view them as in the same tier impact-wise. This run with Harden is going to be very telling in the final placings, but for now I trust Joel.
Ultimately I could easily go #2 to #5 no problem, but I'm still leaning #5... or #4. Curry is the one I'm less confident about, actually.

super-max player with first team all-league and champion.exact ranking is matter of taste but he better be on your team than on opponents.

I guess I just have trouble giving him the edge over someone who's track record is simply more proven. Embiid hasn't had his Giannis type of finals/championship run yet so to speak. Maybe this is that year, so it may actually be better if we all wait before putting rankings out.

Feels like he’s got to be 4th. That was a very, very good version of Duncan who was rightfully considered the best player in the league, but he still wasn’t at his absolute peak level from ‘03. Jokic, Giannis, and Embiid are all having incredible all-time seasons. They currently have 3 of the top 6 PER seasons of all-time with one guy being the best playmaking big of all-time and the other 2 being DPOY candidates. No one in NBA history could compete with that without being at their absolute peak.

The reigning Finals MVP who won DPOY 2 years ago, put up 50 in a Game 7 last year, and is currently breaking his own record for highest PER of all-time doesn’t even “give you pause”? Come on.

I mean there is always going to be a reigning finals MVP....doesn't mean they're going to be better than Tim Duncan.

I don't think PER matters much, especially across eras. I also don't consider Embiid a DPOY candidate, far from it in fact.
