Miles is averaging 20PPG and 7 boards on 49% shooting

Mikal is 14PPG and 4 board on 53% shooting.

Both were picked 2 picks apart but Miles is almost 2 years younger. Except Mikal is locked up to a fairly friendly contract while Miles is looking for a payday this off-season.

Which player is better?

Miles could be a great role player on a great team like Mikal. I don't think Mikal could do what Miles does for the Hornets

All because of one workout where he outplayed Miles. It's not like they haven't been scouting these players for years prior to the draft. Knicks gonna Knick.

I think Mikal could give a more consistent contribution though. It's not like the Hornets are starved for scorers. They both definitely are on teams that better fit their skillsets.

How many players significantly improve their handle after entering the league? Not many, it's not something you can reliably predict. It's why Miles is a much better player now than he was when he entered the league. It's really allowed him to take advantage of his strength and athleticism.

they are close but Mikal has been locked for a good contract ($90M/4yr). Hornets likely will have to max Miles out (~$130M/4yr) in order to keep him. It was believed that his agent talked him out of a $60M/4yr extension offer.

I don't think Miles is even remotely as good a defender as Mikal, or as versatile. I do think that Mikal could put up the 20ish points Miles does. He can dunk the ball as well.
