'22 Aaron Gordon vs. '21 MPJ

I'm hearing alot of national media use Jokic missing his "two best teammates" as a reason to vote him above Embiid who was only missing Simmons.

I think MPJ is very overrated, I think he's a 6'10" shooter who can throw down spectacular dunks occasionall, but not much else. I think MPJ is one of the worst defenders in the league relative to position among high minute players.

I think AG is better than MPJ, and fits like a glove with Jokic. AG is imo a terrific defender who gave Denver. 15/6/3 line on 52% FG.

Spoiler:
People also say Jokic is missing two max players, but MPJ is making less than 6mil this year. Denver is just over 600k from the Luxury Tax and even without MPJ would still have one of the most expensive rosters in the league. And fwiw Wall and Westbrook are "max" players "max" player doesn't mean they are good.

Although this thread has subtext of an MVP debate, I created this thread to see if RealGM PC board values MPJ or AG more for on court ability.

I vote AG and I think Barton and Morris both have cases over MPJ (Barton more so)

I don't think much of MPJ or AG. If we're talking about Murray, completely different story.

MPJ is bad but so is Gordon. At least MPJ can shoot. Gordon is kinda sad at everything including his overhyped defense.

I think MPJ is wildly overrated by casual fans who just see the "6'10 wing who can shoot he must be Durant" comps.

That being said, AG is just not a good player.

MPJ is a pretty good player if you take away the injuries and god awful contract

MPJ was a 19 ppg scorer on 66 TS%. His defense is mediocre but there are lots of guards far worse than him defensively.

I can't even fathom how one could think Aaron Gordon was better. Its actually pretty sad that Aaron Gordon is the second best player currently. Aaron Gordon is a decent defender but offensively he isn't particularly good at anything besides finishing.

MPJ. There is nothing out there that suggests MPJ is one of the worst defenders in the NBA and his offense is tiers above anything AG does. Considering Morris/Barton over him is laughable.

MPJ with the clear offensive edge and Gordon with the clear defensive edge. Probably MPJ though I wish we had a bigger sample to work with

I like Gordon a great deal and consider him the perfect addition to the Jokic/Murray/Porter core, and you can certainly argue that he's more important for the Nuggets than the 3rd best scorer on the team, but Porter at his best is a legit all-star level player.

I'm about as far as a rah-rah-volume-score guy as you can get, but we don't see guys come into the league and in their first healthy year go through sustained runs of 20+ PPG and 65%+ TS all that often, and it's not like we didn't see evidence of impact. Last year Porter lead the team in +/- and had a higher OnCourt ORtg than any of the other Nuggets have ever has had.

I think it's easy to look at the success of the Nuggets this year and think that the other offensive stars were superfluous, but no, there's reason to think this Nuggets team can be considerably better than it is if Jokic has some serious scorers to pass the ball to.

What data can you point to back up this assessment?
