How do they compare defensively?

I mean every perimeter defender would be better if they could also somehow protect the rim. But Simmons was still able to have major defensive impact without that.
I mean KG wasn't much of a rim defender as a PF/C, but we all recognize he still had major defensive impact. Just because he wasn't Tim Duncan or Ben Wallace, doesn't mean he wasn't still a highly impactful defender.
If the standard is Gobert, then yeah Simmons defensive value is limited. If the standard is Smart or OG or Bridges as seems more accurate, he does just fine.

I mean, the standard is... Kirilenko, which is who he's being compared with. And he was a monster secondary rim protector.

I did understand the assignment of the thread.![]()
But I specifically quoted a poster saying that his lack of rim protection really limits his defensive value. And I disagree with that take and thus replied as such.
