I'll tweak that:
Kyrie being one of the most skilled 1-on-1 players of all time has caused him to be overrated at 5-on-5 basketball.
And further:
Kyrie being one of the most capable 1-on-1 players in a sport where many involved in the game don't understand team basketball has caused him to experience a flattery that has led him to conclude that anything he doesn't understand isn't real, which has thus led him to conclude he can make better assessments of things he knows absolutely nothing about - like physics or vaccines - better than people who have devoted their lives to these things.
This is a child who needed to be humbled when he was younger so that he could be grow into being something other than a child.

Sad, because as we all agree, a lot of the tools to be great. Head game is all wrong. He reminds me some of other scoring points from the early 2000s, and the right era in which to thrive. He's no Kevin Johnson, though. And Sam Cassell spent a long time working with other scorers, then almkst got it done with KG. Shame Kyrie cant model some of that.

I do remember Kyrie leading a young Boston team to the #1 seed and would have led them to the finals had he not gotten injured.
Kyrie's head has been all over the place for about 4 years. Prior to that he was every bit the player he was touted as. Nowadays? Who knows. He barely played this year.

The Celtics won at nearly the same rate when he was out. Plus he chose to get his nose job done on the same day as game 7 against Cleveland so he would miss it.

He once argued for flat earth theories.
In fairness, I believe he later distance himself from the comments, so it is perhaps hitting below the belt bringing it up here.

Kyrie is not overrated, he is injury prone more than anything else. He is still playing at a high level, efficient 27 ppg has become a standard for him-when he plays.

Just not in the playoffs when he don't play with LBJ...He can have a great game here and there but it often follows by bad games like in the series against the Celtics (great in game 1, awful in game 2 to 4)Same thing against the bucks in 2019.
His major problem, he is often unavailable for reasons that have nothing to do with basketball, too much drama

He was unavailable for reasons outside of basketball only once, and it was this year, and he has every right to choose for himself whether he wants to take the vaccine or not. Kyrie had two bad games in this series, game 4 wasn't even that bad, he let KD be agressive because he had to try to redeem himself. He was great in game 1 and KD blew it with his silly turnovers.

I guess that's why he averages 22 points on negative efficiency in the playoffs since he left Cleveland.

Do you remember what happen before the Harden trade in the 2021 season?

Small sample size skewed by that awful series against Milwaukee in which he quit and I don't defend him for that. But I don't see any decline in his overall play, just the opposite, he is more efficient than ever. He needs to stay helthy.

He went on his sister's 30th birthday and missed 3-4 regular season games which was essentially a load managment, which is something that today's players do a lot. Totally meaningless situation blown up by the media like Stephen A Smith.

He's overrated if you think he's a top 20 PG of all time or has an argument for it. Very few players have gotten more bang for their buck for being on fire in one series than Irving has.

The problem is, Nash just had no idea where Kyrie was in the first day...Kyrie has had drama like this a lot in his career, especially since he left Cleveland. He don't need a coach according to him too.

NBA is filled with drama and Kyrie is definitely an eccentric personality. I just don't see a decline in his level, he is still playing great, but this is a team sport.

Re: Kyrie being one of the most skilled players of all time has overrated him.
kyrie is a great/shooter scorer - like all-time great in terms of ability to score a lot of points and do it efficiently. we're talking about a 50/40/90 (60% TS), 25+ ppg type guy. there are only a dozen of those guys in all of NBA history. does that make him an all-time great player? I'm not sure. it's hard to quantify the greatness of that type of player.
he doesn't to a lot of anything else at a high level. he's a pretty good passer, a pretty good guard rebounder and an average defender.
but the ability to score and do it efficiently might be the single most important ability in basketball. it gets you far.

he is even not more skillful in a 5 vs 5 basketball game than Lowry. Never MVP candidate, never led any team to achieve anything.. no first team.. I say stop ranking the guy because he is not good enough to be ranked.
