it has been a while since we have had a holy war thread, aka a jordan vs lebron thread so why not?
some quick numbers
88 jordan bulls
#3 ranked defense out of 23
-2.5 defensive rating
4th of 23 in efg% allowed, 17 of 23 in turnovers forced, 1st in the league in defensive rebounding, 8 of 23 in free throws allowed
2009 cavs
#3 ranked defense out of 30
-5.5 defensive rating
2th of 30 in efg%, 10th in turnovers, 9th in defensive rebounding, 11th in free throws allowed
we dont have (official/full) plus minus data for jordan so if someone has even a sample of plus/minus metrics for jordan that season it would be really useful
in lebron case we have some defensive impact metrics
defensive rapm : 2.8 (second best among perimeter players that season, after ron artest)
On court: 100.6 D rating (-7.7 relative to league average)
Off court: 108.8 D rating (+0.5 rel to LA)
Difference: -8.2
boxscore wise
jordan per 100: 3.9 steals, 2.0 blocks, 4.7 defensive boards
lebron per 100: 2.4 steals, 1.6 blocks, 9.0 defensive boards
