Taking accomplishments and accolades out of the equation, is Luka a better player than Kobe ever was?

Outside of maybe defense and scoring, what exactly does Kobe do better? Luka is a better passer, more efficient scorer, more efficient, has a tremendous IQ, and he seems to make everyone around him better. He is like a modern-day Bird with even more potential which is scary. Thoughts?

Yes, Luka has the mamba mentality. In time, he may surpass the master. May.

I'm not sure.

His impact numbers aren't the best.

Being able to integrate your game with superior talents really is an important skill. It is an open question whether Luka's style of play is conductive to playing with elite talents. He so monopolizes the offense that it is an open question.

Maybe Luka's so good that it doesn't matter but I'm skeptical.

I don't see the Bird comparison at all beyond them being white. Bird's greatness came from how excellent he was off ball. Luka loves playing on ball the way 14 yr old virgins love porn.

If you're already this high on Luka, boy do I have something to tell you...come PS time, I don't think it is out of the question to say that Luka is a better socrer either depending on your thoughts on his portability and gripes with holding the ball so much.

Don't do this.

In 2004, 2006 U.S won bronze. They won gold in 2008 and 2012 once Kobe joined.

idk about ever but I think if we narrow it down to just the playoffs that Luka's combo of size, strength, skill and savvy might make him the more resilient player.

i have somewhat different doubts

my issues is not portability as much as it is about thinghs like efficiency (and defense but his size helps a lot there)

he has a incredibly high floor and is a player who is very agressive (and ball dominant enough) and has a deep enough "bag" that is probably impossible to stop him from getting his 30 points/8 assists or more every series against any opponent

but if he never becomes able to do that in better than slightly above average efficiency there will be somewhat of a limit for his team offenses

that is the step left (and is a big ome admiteddly) for luka to be a offensive goat tier player in the level of jokic, jordan, lebron, magic, curry (very similar players i know) all of which in different ways had incredible offense creation + really efficient volume scoring

Way too early to tell. I mean, Luka has been spectacular this year but we shouldn't forget that Kobe also had some amazing runs in his career (2001, 2008 and 2009 in particular). Luka is much worse defender as well.
