Projection thread. Where do you think Jayson Tatum will end up in the list of all time great Boston Celtics list? Will he surpass Pierce? McHale? Havlicek? Cowens?

He will easily pass Pierce, McHale and likely Cowens. His peak is already better than Pierce.

It's certainly better than Pierces. I think he ends up better all-time than McHale and Cowens.

He'll end my season in the top 4 of my POY vote above guys like Embiid/Luka, so I think he at least has an argument against any non-Russell/Bird/KG Celtic peak.

He's off to a very strong start, I think the path to #3 is clear enough providing health and staying in Boston. Climbing above that, well that'd take some doing.

He can battle with John Havlicek for 3rd best Celtics if he can win a few championships and multiple 1st team in the next several years.

So, with guys like McHale & Cowens, part of the deal is longevity. We don't know what the future holds for Tatum, but if his arc continues as it has, I expect he'll surpass them even if it's debatable whether he was better at his peak.

I will say, I'm a lot higher on Cowens than I used to be, but given how good Tatum is on defense, I'm not if Cowens' defense can realistically be said to make up for Tatum's offensive superiority.

Pierce will absolutely require great longevity, but I'd say he's already better than peak Pierce.

Hondo will likely be the most debatable even if things break well for Tatum. There will be good arguments for Tatum over Hondo, but Hondo has such a unique career that he has a better chance to stay ahead than any of the others.

I think he will end up battling with Pierce for w/e position you have him at. Some may have him as high as 4th. I doubt he challenges Russell/Bird or Hondo.

Russell is one of the 4 guys I have on the possible GOAT tier: Kareem, Russell, Jordan and Lebron

Bird is in the much larger 2nd tier. I don't think Tatum gets here but it isn't impossible

I mean the addition of Bird alone pretty much turned the celtics into contenders right from the start. It'll be hard for Tatum to catch him imo.

While I don't think it's impossible, when I actually stop to think about Bird vs Tatum, I don't really see how it's an argument or how it'll ever be an argument. Like Tatum's good, but do I really think he'll ever be better than or even equivalent to Bird? I have a hard time seeing it.

Only 24 right now. Probably same path as Pierce.
