I would want to do more research to be certain but DEFINITELY 74 AND 77.

I think every season from 71-77 (except maybe 75), has a reasonable argument.

Edit-Would throw 78-80 in potentially.

Fun Fact:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the playoffs from 1974 to 1980 (53 playoff games) scored 28.6 inflation-adjusted points p/75 on +9.9 opp. adjusted efficiency.

When you consider it was a high pace era where Kareem was not benefitting from scoring on fastbreaks as a big, that he played so many minutes and scored at that rate, and efficiently scoring was so hard to come by...

Kareem is a Top 2 scorer of all-time and maybe the greatest 1v1 scorer ever, and the GOAT half-court scorer.

71-72, 72-73, 75-76 were monster regular seasons, but major postseason drop off or no playoffs at all.

79-80 is comparable to Giannis peak statistically, but Kareem was 32 by then so I would give the edge to Giannis since he was 26 for his peak season.

I think most of 71-80. Because at the end of the day his scoring will just be more resilient against any strong defense imo and his defense will probably be as good or better plus his bbiq/passing were elite level.

I’d have trouble taking Giannis over any prime Kareem version. Kareem is a goat candidate, Giannis is not.

Not sure why you think it helped much at all. I mean do you think anyone on that team was there because the franchisee had won a title 50 years earlier? I think there's about a 10-15 year window where a past ring may help with perception of a team from a player pov.

As of right now i'd would rather take basically every year from '71 - '80. However, there there are definitely a few arguable seasons in that decade like '70(I would probably lean no to this year, but the playoff run does look very impressive), '75, and '78 but those would mostly be because missed games and not his quality of play. It's just how it is when you go up against a basically consensus top 4 player ever - they are mostly consistent when it comes to having high value seasons year to year in their prime.

Lots of interesting space to argue for Kareem here. He was a magnificent player. Overly criticized in his hey-day because of insufficient teammates in LA pre-Magic, and his bit in Airplane remains one of my favorite comedic scenes.

The base premise of this thread seems a little odd, though, since we can't actually be sure we've seen "peak" Giannis.
