Was challenged to defeat this Super Peak Team:

Post#1 » by SelakStreet » Fri Jul 22, 2022 12:21 pm

PG: '00 Gary Payton
SG: '91 Hersey Hawkins (Philadelphia 76ers)
SF: '93 Detlef Schrempf (Indiana Pacers)
PF: '85 Terry Cummings (Milwaukee Bucks)
C: '96 Shawn Kemp

My Team:

PG: '99 Jason Kidd
SG: '89 Kevin Johnson
SF: '98 Rex Chapman
PF: '90 Wayman Tisdale (Sacramento Kings)
C: '90 Hot Rod Williams (Cleveland Cavaliers)

Right out of the gate, I think I clearly have a chance with better production from Kidd, KJ, Chapman, Tisdale and Hot Rod. Where I think my team runs better is that the offense can run through either Kidd or KJ. Having those two as main ball handlers opens up the whole offense for Chapman, Tisdale and Hot Rod.

I don't even know if that team is beating real life teams. They'd for sure be underdogs to the KD Warriors, and I don't even think I'd pick them to beat the Jordan Bulls, '01 Lakers, Magic & Bird's teams.

If I'm allowed to pick anybody I want? That's too easy lol.

Any reasons why you believe my Super Peak Team of Jason Kidd, Kevin Johnson, Rex Chapman, Wayman Tisdale and Hot Rod Williams won't be able to beat the KD-era Warriors, MJ-era Bulls, '01 Lakers, Magic-era Lakers and Bird-era Celtics?

A number of them. First, Chapman and Tisdale didn't play much defense and Chapman is out of position at SF where he is too weak to keep from boing posted by the likes of Durant, Pippen, Worthy, and Bird. Second, there isn't great rebounding with Hot Rod and Tisdale being solid but not outstanding and Chapman and KJ being weak for their positions. Kidd is one of the great rebounding guards but he can't make up for the rest against a championship talent type team. And, with only Chapman focusing on outside scoring (assuming prime Kidd), you don't have great spacing either. I wouldn't be on that team winning a title in any year I can think of. KJ is your star and he was terrific when healthy but not transcendent the way the true GOAT peak candidates were. And, presumably your bench isn't anything to brag about either.

I don't even think you win the matchup you posted as while you have a slight backcourt advantage, he has one inside with Kemp and Cummings and Schrempf owning Rex Chapman who was never even an above average 2 guard when defense was taken into account, much less a great player at the 3.
