How many Bird and Curry seasons would you say are better than Duncan in 2005?

Yeah, 2016 probably should be ahead. 2021 is a close one, could go either way.

An interesting discussion, in any case, yeah. :)

I don't think that close. I'd say 80-85%. He goes from having one of his best seasons up until he gets injured, misses like a month and then is only playing about 20-25mpg after he comes back before the playoffs begin. His only real strong playoff series is against Phx which had major interior defense issues. So his rs has to be downgraded and his playoffs are too compared to his 02/03 peak.

Honest question, for Larry Bird, why is it not every season from 1980-81 to 1987-88?

I do not remember Duncan's 2004-05 being a particularly remarkable season from an individual perspective, especially compared to his own 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.

Larry was a narrow 2nd in the MVP voting for 1980-81 (also won title as a sophomore), 1981-82 and 1982-83... was the MVP 3x times in a row between 1983-84 to 1985-86... and his 1986-87 and 1987-88 seasons were strong ones too (finishing 3rd behind Magic/MJ and 2nd behind MJ in the MVP votes respectively).

This is a short answer for now so bare with me, but Bird wasn’t nearly consistent enough in the playoffs those other years. Duncan’s offense underwhelmed in that run, but his d was still top the league level.
