Now mind you, PG13 had 7x All Star selections while still having to have sat out a year due to injury and last year he was 100% playing at an All Star level until going down with injury. Realistically PG13 could be a 8x-10x All Star but isn't.

PG13 has also been the best at his position in the league. Of course Melo has been playing behind LeBron James his whole career and yet 2018-2019 PG13 makes All NBA ahead of...Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, LeBron James which is impressive even if LeBron was injured that season.

Obviously on defense it isn't a debate, PG13 is better.

On offense..Melo does have a slighter higher upper hand. The volume has been there, Melo overall does score more than PG ever did. PG13 is capable of matching Melo's highest scoring output of 28 ppg though.

Here are the career #s

Carmelo:

22.5 ppg 6.2 rpg 2.7 apg 1 spg 44% FG 35% 3pt 81% FT

PG13:

20.4 PPG 6.4 RPG 3.6 APG 1.7 SPG 43% FG 38% 3pt 84% FT

PG13 does have slightly lower #s but PG13's first 2 seasons he was VERY slow to start, was not nearly as good as Melo. Despite Melo having 20 ppg out the gate the difference in scoring is not that high. Of course since 2018 Melo has been a sub 20 ppg scorer so that does even things out.

The #s are alarmingly close, if PG13 never had injuries he'd probably be talked up more regularly as the clear HoFer he is.

I’d probably already rank George Higher and his career isn’t close to done yet. Melo hasn’t been a clear positive player since like 2017 or so.

Here on the PC board, Paul George; the general public, Carmelo.

George is a better defender, better rebounder, better facilitator & more efficient scorer.

Carmelo missed more FGs (12,529) than George has even attempted (11,743) to this point in his career, so I guess Carmelo is better at shooting without a conscience.

Might wanna break that down into 2PT FG% and 3PT FG%, or at least add eFG%. George shoots a loooot more threes than Melo.

Paul George battling LeBron in the ECF was better than any version of Melo.

Paul George on many of his least impressive years was probably about as good as Carmelo usually was.

Melo was more durable during his prime with sexier volume scoring numbers and fewer turnovers while drawing fouls at a higher rate, but that's about where his advantages end. The defensive gap is massive and George might also be the better overall offensive player when you account for his superior efficiency and playmaking

If we look at Melo from 2006 through 2013 and George from 2013 to present, both are very playoff resilient in terms of scoring output -- Melo slightly more so -- however George maintains his efficiency at around 57% TS while Melo's TS drops from about 55% RS to 52% PS. Oddly enough Melo's OBPM increases to 4.0 in the PS while George's slightly declines to 2.6, likely a result of George being substantially more turnover prone while scoring 6 fewer points per 100. I don't wanna credit Melo too much for the lower TOs though as it's a lot easier to avoid them when you're more inclined to force low% shots than make plays for others

Carmelo like 140? I see a couple guys on my peak list like Derrick Rose and Gilbert Arenas, so removing those guys Carmelo is like 130 something.

I guess melo may end up more remembered but george was the better player imo

Melo is mostly associated with the image of an isolation scorer who creates a lot of empty numbers and doesnt make his team better. PG on the other hand works hard on defense and is not that far away in terms of offense, he should be the easy choice here.

Both are not ending up as tier 1 talent because they failed to really lead their teams. Too much of the wrong personality, saying the wrong things at the wrong time, not focussing on the game, on winning.
