If Gobert retires today, is he hall of fame worthy?

Yes even with today’s accolades 3x DPOY is HoF but he will finish with a few more All Star and All Defense to pad things up

I certainly think he is, you know there will be mobs who will argue to the end of the earth the shouldn't be though.

Pretty easily, I'd think.

I don't even see how this is a serious question. Of course he is. 3x DPOTY and 4x All-NBA is a lock, and it has nothing to do with the relatively "weak" standards of the Basketball HoF.

Ben Wallace, Dikembe Mutombo and Alonzo Mourning are all in the HoF with similar accolades to Gobert.

Penny Hardaway isn't even in yet nor Shawn Kemp nor Chauncey Billups.

Gobert has had a vastly better career than Penny and Kemp - what's the problem?

Eh, I don't think so. Those were top 5 players in the league. Penny was 3rd in MVP, with multiple all-nba 1sts.

Gobert has had a vastly longer career. Not a vastly better one.

Kemp was never close to top 5 in the league. I'm not sure he ever reached top 10 to be honest.

Yeah, Penny sure, he was a superstar until he got injured, but Kemp? Gobert has peaked better by any conceivable measure, even accolade-wise.

Yes based on those DPOYs. He has banked more good years than I thought as he was effective from his 2nd year on.

Rudy Gobert is world-historically underrated at this point

Kemp is a top 5 player if you remove Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone, David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquile O'Neal, Gary Payton, Reggie Miller, Alonzo Mourning, Charles Barkley, Grant Hill, Scottie Pippen and Penny Hardaway himself. (can think of a couple more players tbh)

Gobert deserved top 3 in 21.

Yup, Kemp was borderline top 10 at best and that, too, for just a short time.

In 1996? Ewing, Hakeem, Mourning? Barkley? I don't think so. Kemp went h2h vs Hakeem in the playoffs, and outplayed him pretty decisively. Not sure there's a case there. Grant Hill finished lower in all-nba voting, but that's a closer one.

MJ, Malone, DRob, Shaq were indisputably better. The others are not clear-cut, except for those clearly worse than the others (Ewing, Mourning, Barkley, Hill)

Yeah, Barkley, Ewing and Hakeem were clearly better than Kemp in 1996. Kemp played on extremely stacked team that went to the finals, otherwise you would never say that he was better.

Hakeem was on a stacked team as well. Defending champions. Just got annihalated by the Sonics.

Knicks/Suns weren't stacked?

These are all super-talented teams.
