Peak Stockton/Malone today
Where would peak Stockton/Malone rank among duos in the league today?
Note this refers to their peak combined strength, not their individual peaks.

Stockton and Malone is timeless and would be even better if their teammates were better 3 point shooters.

How many times in history have a duo both been easily top 10 players in the league? There isn't a duo like that currently in the league. The last time we've seen that might have been LeBron/Wade. Anyone who's not voting #1 knows nothing about the NBA. So about half the people on this forum...seems about right.

Really? LeBron/Kyrie, Curry/Durant, LeBron/AD all have a case. Peak LeBron with a not top 10 Kyrie may be enough.

Oh yeah forgot about the brief duo of Curry/Durant, since that team was cheating. Kyrie was never a top 10 lock, and neither was AD, unless you count the one bubble playoffs (I don't)

Anthony Davis was never a top ten player before he was on the Lakers?
i don't think this is even your craziest take lately but your memory is either way off or you must have some type of discrimination toward AD's playing style and not acknowledging its effectiveness.

Borderline perhaps, but irrelevant in the context of talking about duos. That said I don't think much of supposed top 10 players who can't drag their team to the playoffs (cough KG who just stole an MVP and missed the playoffs 3 straight seasons thereafter). Not that I don't value defense, but a defensive specialist is not a top 10 player in the league, nor all-time. If you need 3 or 4 other all-star level players on your team to win a chip, it's not really you leading the team. That's a 2004 Pistons type team with no standout player.

Kyrie circa 2015-16 has as much a claim to being a top 10 player as Stockton circa 96-98 does, especially in the playoffs.

AD was literally third in MVP voting the year before he submitted a trade request and was averaging 28-10 you literal idiot lmfao

Re: Peak Stockton/Malone today
In the league *today*? Probably the best. I think Giannis, Jokic, Luka and probably Embiid are all better individual players. LeBron, Durant, and Tatum would be close as individuals. Maybe Giannis/JRue as a pair?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

With "today" we're assuming the return of players like AD and KD who are injured but as far as I know are expected to return at full strength this regular season

Okay, if we're talking a healthy AD I take that pair. AD was playing at MVPish level and LeBron has slid but is still awfully good.
