Use whichever season you think is peak is: '06, '11 or whichever else (though I'd be surprised if someone preferred another season than those two).

#41 in your program, #1 in your heart, #2 in the league? Jokic better for sure. Giannis/Curry missed a lot of games and Giannis not having quite the offensive season we've come to expect. Embiid missed some games too, but maybe he's ahead of Dirk too?

So between 2-5 depending on how one deals with injuries/ contextualizing modern offensive numbers. Clearly the best Maverick though.

In a vacuum I think I'd go #4 (Jokic, Giannis, Curry). Maybe up to #2 considering health. Can't really see him over Jokic.

Third behind Jokic and Giannis I guess. Jokic is the only one i’m sure about.

Top 3 behind only Giannis and Jokic.

Dirk would be amazing today. Would be interesting to see if he changed his 3PAr, though. In his own career, he started shooting lots of them, tailed them off in his prime, then shot more as he slowed down after the title.

Either way, though, he'd be a nasty weapon with the kind of spacing we see today. Brutal mid-range weapon with 3pt range who punishes you at the line. When he was younger with that first step at 7 feet? Savage. He'd be lighting it up like a monster.

I don’t even think dude would be top 5 tbh. Giannis, Jokic, Luka, Curry all definitively better

Think this way, Mavs are the 2nd winningest team (1137w/779l, 59.3%) in the past 23 years in the entire nba, and Dirk was the anchor for majority of that..

Putting Jokic, Giannis ahead pretty confidently. Curry has health concerns but if healthy, he's a pretty easy pick as well. A healthy postseason probably puts Embid ahead. Case to be made Luka is already there.

Honestly suprised people think he translates so well. Dirk suffers from a relative lack of versatility and that fairly big advantage he had in his time as a stretch big isn't nearly as pronounced now.

A historically great 7' offensive force with unguardable moves and unlimited range who becomes even better in the playoffs are coveted in any era.

Sure. I'm still betting he's less coveted when his positional competition is better at shooting

Scoring wise I don’t see how Dirk would be much worse if any than Jokic. He doesn’t have Jokic’s passing, but that’s mainly what seperates them anyhow. Simply put Dirk wouldn’t just be some run of the mill stretch big or whatever, they’d have really no way of guarding him just like they didn’t back then. I don’t see much reason to think Luka matches his offensive impact, and Curry will always be interesting but not surprising his health is a problem. I don’t think it’s reasonable to have him out of the top 5, and come playoffs there absolutely isn’t more than 3 guys you’d rather have at most.

In this era of heavy PnR variations and open space, Dirk would be woeful negative on Defense with his atrocious foot speed and poor lateral quickness.

Dirk wasn't a good defender in the era in which he played in; Offenses back then didn't properly exploit his weakness and relied on stereotype of a 'soft European'.

Dirk would be a definite Top 10 and borderline Top 5 player today.

Yeah it's almost like people forget he averaged 25-10 in the Playoffs for his CAREER.... in an era where stats were harder to accumulate.

I think he'd be in the 2-4 range depending on how much you value RS health. Given Giannis and Curry's missed games he could definitely be at 2.

Not sure how that's relevant. Dirk is better if he stands out from the field more. He's worse if he stands out from the field less. If stats were harder to accumulate, that means, everyone's stats were down, including Dirk's competition.

Are you arguing dirk would be a good player or that dirk would be guaranteed top 4 in the playoffs. Because "run of the mill stretch big" is a much lower bar to clear

That is literally my point. Dirk played in an era where stats were harder to accumulate and still averaged 25-10 in the Playoffs over a 20 year career.

If I wasn't clear, I think those numbers for that long is a GOOD achievement.

I don’t see much of a difference in where he’d rank overall.

Dirk was top 3, with a case for the best when he actually did peak, the difference was there was no Jokic back then.
