Am I crazy for thinking the Pistons might have a more complete and balanced team than the Lakers and Celtics with every player restricted to 16 minutes

If you're using every player who ever wore the jersey....
Magic
Kobe
LeBron
Davis
Kareem
Cooper
West
Baylor
Pau
Shaq
Nixon
Scott
Worthy
Odom
Wilt
DEFINITELY still the Lakers.

Wilt
Webber
Mullin
Sprewell
Hardaway
Bogut
Green
Wiggs
Klay
Curry
Thrumond
Durant
Barry
Richmond

I misunderstood this, I was thinking you were asking if we took today's rosters and gave the 11-15 men on the roster equal time with the starters and 6-10 guys, who has the best roster.
And, I was despairing because although I enjoy watching basketball, I couldn't tell you the 11-15 guys on any team other than my own.

Can you clarify and/or expand what you are attempting to say here.
As I understand, I would take the Lakers 1st, 2nd and 3rd
line-ups over the Pistons.
What do you mean by balanced?

The Lakers are too much at the 5 - Shaq, Wilt and Kareem is BBQ chicken alert...Maybe I'd throw in West/Goodrich pair and Nash/Eddie Jones in the 2nd and 3rd lineup to go along Magic/Kobe.
Maybe Philly?
Wilt/Moses/Embiid
Barkley/Schayes(or move Embiid here and plug Mutombo at C)/McGinnis
Dr.J/Bobby Jones/Cunningham
Chet Walker/Jimmy Buckets/Harden
AI3/Mo Cheeks/Andrew Toney

C - Wilt, Moses, Embiid
PF - Barkley, Cunningham, Bobby Jones
SF - Dr J, Butler, Iggy
SG - Iverson, Greer, Hawkins
PG - Harden, Jrue, Cheeks
If I split into 3 lineups of equal playing time I think I'd go...
Embiid
Barkley
Butler
Greer
Cheeks
Moses
Jones
Dr J
Hawkins
Harden
Wilt
Cunningham
Iggy
Iverson

I left out Schayes because the only season he played for Philly (when it was actually Philly) was the last year of his career. I was split on Hawkins vs Toney and was compelled by recency bias to include Iggy/Jrue over McGinnis/Walker (partly because of fit). I like your list though as it pays justice to the oft forgotten old timers

Yea, Schayes was interesting. I want to put Embiid at PF and Mt. Mutombo and C but didn't want to seem like cheating.
For the PF McGinnis has to be over Iggy, you put Iggy in there against 6'9+ PFs and he is done. I imagine Rasheed running a fadeaway right over him all day long... Maybe he can find a place on the SG or SF roster as designated defender bumping Cunningham or Jones? I Like where Harden is for SG, with both Cunningham and McGinnis on the forwards and Mutombo manning the middle, maybe switch Toney and Cheeks to give the extra jumpshot on the second team?

I actually put Jones at the 4, which made room for Iggy at the 3. I kind of already considered Jones a PF but in the context of modern spacing I didn't think he could be utilized as a true wing. Otherwise I'd totally agree about McGinnis over Iggy at the 4

I didn't even realize the idea was 3 balanced lineups, not just a 1st/2nd/3rd team. The Lakers look even better then.
Cooper
Kobe
Worthy
Odom
Shaq
Goodrich
Jones
LeBron
Davis
Wilt
Magic
West
Baylor
Pau
Kareem
3 separate teams all built around the three great duos: Kobe/Shaq, LeBron/AD and Magic/Kareem, with other legends like West, Baylor and Wilt sprinkled in.

Assuming we aren't taking length of career into account, I'd have Toney at the 2 over either Iverson or Hawkins. Cunningham played his best years in Philly as a 3 (returning from the ABA), Iggy can move to 2, also ahead of Hersey Hawkin. Then you have room for Dolph Schayes who would be a great 3 and D player (85% career FT% and known for outside range imply that he could be a good 3 point shooter) at the 4.
