Will Zion be biggest bust in terms of hype?

Zion’s legit my favorite player but think I’ve given up hope. Dude clearly acts like a child and doesn’t take this seriously. He routinely keeps getting fat, concerned with chili cheese fries and now going through a Ben Simmons dilemma. I know folks mention Oden as most hyped bust ever but will Zion take the crown at this rate?

Nah, because Oden was taken ahead of KD and Zion was taken ahead of Ja.

No, because he is good.

Embiid played less games in his first 4 seasons, he can still be a semi reliable high 50’s low 60’s player. I’d want to wait another year or two before giving up on him

But Zion was clearly a much better player than Oden. Not even close. I haven’t seen anyone as hyped since Bron

But Zion’s problems are tied significantly due to weight and dude clearly doesn’t want to improve upon it. It’ll get worse…

His problems are more bio mechanical than weight
Even if he became a 6’6 210 guy he’d still have injury concerns

What bio-mechanical issues are you seeing? I know the team made him learn how to walk or run a bit differently than he did prior to his first injury.

Oden was a higher rated draft pick than Zion to me.

Was he? I don't really know if he was in College atleast.

Yes, I’m both lol. Oden was always overrated as a prospect as people wanted a new big man to hype up. Durant was clearly much better than Oden that year. Zion was much better in college and in the NBA as well, don’t even see the argument as a prospect either. He was shooting nearly 70% from the field with elite defense while averaging similar minutes to Oden. Don’t see the comparison at all

No, I guarantee that he would get less injured if he was less fat. While a marvel, there’s a reason why Bron went most of his career without injury until later in his career. He simply takes care of his body much more than the average player.

Independent of landing issues or walking gait, I said pretty much from the beginning that I wouldn't be surprised if he's out of the league in 10 years due to injury issues. The human body, especially joints, just aren't built to withstand his body type and athleticism. Which is unfortunate considering how good he is when he plays.

To add, I'm more concerned about his management (lack thereof rather) as it pertains to his injuries. It took him a herculian effort (atl from what I've read/seen) to get him in great condition after he was out of shape in Fall 2021 / Early 2022. It seems all of that effort sadly has gone down the drain, as he looks out of shape again. If he has to be load-managed and higher maintenance to even play 50-60 games (as he is phenomenal when healthy), so be it. But managing the injuries and owning this every day seems to be my guess at priority 1

I don't know what the bolded part is meant to mean. As in top 60 player of all time?

zion's hype-level doesn't really compare to Lebron or Wemby

Would you rather have Duncan/Hakeem or Barkley? Oden was supposed to be a two way anchor like that. If him and Durant came out in 2017 draft, Durant might go first, whereas in 2007 most title teams in recent memory were still built around centers. Not sure about Zion going over Durant since imo it wasn't that out of nowhere that the weight Zion carries would cause problems.

When Ohio State played Florida in the 2007 in the NCAA championship game, Greg Oden played 38 out of the possible 40 minutes, shot 10 of 15 for 25 points while holding Al Hortford, Joakim Noah (names sound familiar?) & Chris Richard to a combine 10 of 23. Moreso, these upperclassmen were essentially being used for fouls in order defend Oden (freshman). While Zion highlight dunks were viral and all, Greg Oden was a better prospect substance wise.
Had he stayed healthy, I had no doubts that he would become what Dwight Howard was supposed to be.

I think we sort of have to let go of any idea that media hype is truly equal to ability. The media always needs new players to hype to begin with and more so if its a player that doesn't fit any previous mold. That's what Zion had working for him in a big way. Now could he be an mvp caliber player with no major injuries and an ability to stay under 275lb? Maybe/probably. The hype though to me was mainly just because he represented a new type of player with incredible athleticism.

You’re on drugs. Definitely better than Wemby no question. Wemby is hyped but honestly it seems more like Wiggins pre college and John Wall. Bron is once in a lifetime hype.
