Playoffs only, how many years of Kobe would you take over ’23 Jimmy Butler?

If Butler had stayed healthy I'm not sure any. Bubble Jimmy's run looks better than any playoffs Kobe ever had.

Bubble Butler became one of the biggest myths in recent NBA history. He had a few amazing games in the finals, but his overall run wasn't really special in all-time perspective.

I certainly would say that Kobe was far more consistent at least in 2008-10 than 2020 Butler. If you take away Butler's best series (the finals), the rest of his performance doesn't match up Kobe's peak years.

We're not talking about consistency though, we're talking about a 1 year peak for Butler.

Yes and I am talking about the consistency within this one year. Butler was subpar in 2 of the 4 series in 2020 and even in the finals, he was highly inconsistent. The problem is even bigger for 2023, where outside of the Bucks series (all-time great performance), Butler looks worse than pretty much any version of prime Kobe.

2001, 2006, 2008-2010 seems right. It's good to see that the "Jimmy is modern MJ" takes have died down because once you stop being a prisoner of the moment and take a bird's eye view of his overall playoff run, you realize how ridiculous some of the narratives of 2020-2023 Jimmy are gonna look in hindsight.

I'm of the opinion that its easier to put up scoring numbers for skilled wings now compared to most of Kobe's prime. The numbers all point towards that given how many wings have put up 30-35ppg series in recent years. I also agree with 70's that his 23 run wasn't that great overall(22 is probably better). So on that basis I'd probably take 01-03, 08-10 and most of 05-07 if he'd made it to the 2nd rd or further in those years. It's just very hard to take a run which is one series or shorter over a strong finals run but if I had to choose between 23 Jimmy and Kobe in those years to lead this Heat team I'm probably going with Kobe even though I'm not high on Kobe's leadership(more so in those years).

I don’t get talking about injury for bubble Butler instead of 2023 Butler lol
