I don't think I'd take too seriously any ranking higher than 16 or 15. I can't imagine what criteria would be used outside of saying he was the best player in the world in 14 and 17-18(which I wouldn't agree with) and being really high on his 21-23 years despite all the missed games.

Top 15 I guess, but even that I have trouble with an argument for. I mean compare him to say Jerry West, who’s roughly in the 13-17 range for a lot of people. Does KD have a good case on either end of the floor in that comparison?

It's fairly common to prefer the current era to the 1960s.

I didn’t ask which era you prefer, I asked why “taking era into account” makes for a strong pro-KD case.

Because some people think the 2010s and 2020s are a much stronger era than the 1960s

Low ends of top 15 imo

Can't see him ahead of Robinson, Barkley, Moses and Karl Malone, often placed outside top 15-20.CP did much with less. Hasn't played that many games either

KD is likely going to finish hos career with 30k plus points. You don't do that without some longevity.

15 at the highest, like 23 at the lowest. But I expect over the top 2-3 seasons with more longivity he will be a lock top 20 player of all time.

True though in the case of KD most of his missed games have come when he was really in his prime. His first 7 years up to the age of 25 he missed hardly any games. Since then though(just as he really got going with his mvp season) he's only played in 68% of his team's rs games. So his longevity is to some degree a byproduct of coming in at such a young age.

Some of the games missed is strategic rest or other issues that kept him out as well, not inability to play. Ignoring trade issues and rest, he's played in 2 COVID shortened seasons and a lockout season.

Robinson was at much higher level in a much harder to score era. He is a top 10 alltime defender and a great scorer, per 100pos when he was first option he's a little below Durant. There is no real comparison.
