Which Tyrese is gonna be better this year?

Haliburton is an all-NBA type of guy. Maxey is a rising star but he's not on the same level yet.

I think it’s close but until Maxey shows a bigger sample size it’s Haliburton. Haliburtons the better passer and floor general, Maxeys the better scorer.

Maxey certainly feels like he's a better scorer when your team needs a bucket. I'm not sure we can say yet that he's a better scorer than Haliburton over the course of 48 minutes.

2022/23

Haliburton: 29.2 PTS/100, 62.4% TS
Maxey: 29.9 PTS/100, 60.5% TS

2023/24

Haliburton: 34.0 PTS/100, 67.7% TS
Maxey: 34.9 PTS/100, 61.7% TS

So while I'd likely agree with you, I feel like we'd have to wait and see how Haliburton's scoring develops over the course of the season as well as in the playoffs (for Maxey too, though, obviously) before we can confidently declare it. Until then, it's just something that feels like it should be true but may not necessarily be the case – potentially because Haliburton is a much more unorthodox scorer.

What I will say is that Maxey is a better defender. Haliburton is really exploitable on that end and while I don't have any illusions about Maxey's defensive prowess at this point in his career, I do believe he can certainly hold his own in his normal match-ups. We'll have to see how Haliburton's defense (and offense) translates to the playoffs.

The scoring is close enough that the sizable Haliburton playmaking advantage skews this his way at the moment.

Haliburton, I think his effect on team offense is more multiplicative. While both of them are off to hot starts as scorers, I’d guess that Halliburton’s process and playmaking value are more sustainable.
