Prime Vince Carter in today's league
Where would you rank him among SGs? Among guards? Among best players overall?

A fringe Top 10 guard but not nearly a Top 10 overall player. He was all talent and zero work ethic.

He’d be around Anthony Edwards current level.

Re: Prime Vince Carter in today's league
Hard to compare him as a guard, it's more natural to compare him to other wings, and he'd be a top-5 wing, on par with Tatum/Bron/Kawhi/Butler. If we're talking peak? I'd say he's 1b to Tatum's 1a.

Re: Prime Vince Carter in today's league
He was top 5 in scoring between 2000 and 2002 and was number 1 in offensive BPM in 2001.
He was an extremely good 3 point shooter on top 10 in the league type volume (he got a lot of clean looks due to his driving/ back door lob threat). That 30% long 2 rate probably at least half those turn into 3's which helps his efficiency a ton. So many looks that Lenny Wilkens offense ran was Vince flying off a down screen into a long 2 and if the defender trailed well into an ISO mid range 2.
Vince ISO'd a lot (because his teams always were devoid of offensive talent in Toronto and New Jersey) but the nice thing about his skill set was his handle was kind of the worst part of it so he played very well off ball. Mid post, back door cutting for lobs, shooting off screens. You see this with him playing with JKidd in New Jersey. He was not as good/ athletic as Toronto/ pre-injury Carter but playing with Kidd helped keep his numbers close. His playmaking was always average/ above average-ish. Good passer but did not think the game on the level of the offensive scorers (he's worse than someone like KD in this respect for example, better than Melo).
His strengths defensively are more amplified in today's league (rim protection from the wing position, switchability due to being strong AF). He was a slightly above average defender back then but he always lacked lateral quickness compared to the rest of his athleticism package which dampened his impact in an illegal defense era which was more about one on one defense. Older Vince Carter was quite an underrated defensive impact player in the current rule set on Dallas and even in New Jersey.
Couldn't say Tatum was definitely better than Vince. Vince IMO would be a better offensive player (his relative efficiency was actually better with significantly worse supporting cast) and while Tatum is a better defender I think Vince would much better in this era as his defensive strengths are more prioritized.
That puts Vince between 7-10.
