Which all time centre do you take in a game of 1 on 1 up to 21

As they were, shaq, him vs wilt would be interesting though just in terms of seeing the size

One on one = way more physicality is allowed even vs old NBA

Embiid should be on here

You’re right. He escaped my mind.

Even though it's not him, Kareem should definitely be an option lol.

As for the question, Wilt or Shaq are the safe choices, maybe Hakeem. Between the two, I would pick Shaq, but it's really close.

Hakeem. The best combination of post moves, athleticism and defense.

Hakeem has a case for top 10 1v1 player of all time at any position, let alone center

Wilt played point guard for the Globetrotters, so I trust his handle a little bit more

I would say Wilt, Shaq, Kareem, Kareem if they are calling it very close because of his ability to make FTs. I would have a big drop off to Hakeem or DRob whose team defense is their strongest area. Hakeem particularly, while his post game was extremely resilient, it wasn't terribly efficient and efficient scoring is the key in one on one. The modern guys, Embiid and Jokic, would be my dark horse picks, especially if three point shooting becomes a factor due to reffing or fatigue issues.

I'm kind of surprised Hakeem's winning this considering we saw how he defended a 37+ year old Kareem 1on1 in the 80s and it wasn't pretty.

I honestly think it's Kareem, although he would struggle against the biggest and strongest competitors.

Hakeem is not big enough to work here. Embiid is actually a very good choice as well, his ISO skills are just insane.

I think Kareem loses to Wilt and Shaq but I do wonder how he would do on defense against them in their primes. Against Wilt specifically he might do okay depending on the rules and how physically Wilt plays him. People forget that he did do a pretty good job against an admittedly over the hill Wilt offensively, his length definitely bothered Wilt. In the 72 series Wilt's efficiency plummeted along with Kareem's.

Length always bothered Wilt and Shaq, I don't think Kareem would be hopeless against them.

Shaq, Wilt, Embiid, don't know which one.

You can't stop 7'2 325 lbs. If anyone could, it would be mythic Wilt. Embiid can shoot 3's.

Interested in seeing Sabonis Sr. and future Wemby.

Of course, but I think Wilt would prob win ~55% of their matchups. Kareem is one of the only players that could make him work for it.

How is it anyone but Shaq?

Shaq is the weakest shooter and the slowest out of these players. He's also not that efficient in isolation either. It doesn't make him unable to win it all, but there are arguments against him.

Hakeem’s footwork, handles, decent range, and proven capability in 1v1 matchup makes him the best choice in my book.

Young Kareem would be my second option for most of those same reasons.

How is Hakeem proven in 1 on 1 matchups? He has one of the lower efficiencies of these centers despite having arguably the 20th century team most constructed to create spacing for the center (at least the Robert Horry at PF years) and I've never heard of any of these players playing in a sponsered one on one tourney (Kareem didn't play in the 70s NBA one on one tournament).

You have to watch him to understand.

Arguably the best 1-1 post defender of all time (it’s not an argument from me imho). From shotblocking ability, best hands to steals, deflections the whole works

There’s a video out there showing how badly Hakeem dismantled some all timer centres effectiveness

And it’s pretty obvious he’s the best shot maker for a center. It’s super inelastic vs below/above average defensive teams especially at his peak.

Mobility is insane, great handle, super quick, too many post moves, has the fade etc etc.

He’s pretty much perfect for 1vs1 play.

And basically the worst matchup for all of them imho at both ends.
