Construct a 10-man squad that can beat this one for 1 season.

Season to play in: 2013-2014

Must select a version of the player.

Consider their abilities in that season as they manifested and how it would fit in with their cast.

Also consider coaching.

Assume health.

Limitations

So basically just find off-peak years of the best players in their primes?

PG: Steve Nash (2011); Chris Paul (2018)
SG: Jerry West (1968); Manu Ginobili (2005)
SF: Larry Bird (1987); Kawhi Leonard (2014)
PF: Kevin Garnett (2011); Tim Duncan (2012)
C: Wilt Chamberlain (1969); David Robinson (1999)

Coach: Greg Popovich

All NBA first team selection: Larry Bird (1987)
Other All NBA team selection: Jerry West (1968)
All Defensive first team selection: Kevin Garnett (2011)
Other All Defensive team selection: Kawhi Leonard (2014)
25+ PER player: Larry Bird (1987)

There’s probably some diamond in the rough somewhere that I’m missing, but I’m very happy with this team. The defense with those bigs would be incredible. But you’ve also got absolutely elite point guards offensively, and some great scorers and passers. The team couldn’t quite go 5-out, but it could easily spread the floor by putting Bird at the PF position, and run some spread pick and roll with one of the elite big men. The specified year is 2013-2014, and I’ve got a few guys who were on the great 2014 Spurs team, along with Popovich, which seems appropriate given how well those guys did in that particular season.

You can't reuse players OP used.

That’s not how I read that limitation. I read it as being that you can’t reuse the same player in different years in your team. So, for instance, that limitation would mean I couldn’t take both 1968 Jerry West and 1969 Jerry West in my team. Perhaps OP can clarify this.

Nah, think about the context.

"Beat my squad"
"You cannot re-use any of the players regardless of version "

OP can clarify, but I am 95% certain they wants you to come up with a better team than theirs without re-using his players.

Otherwise the exercise is dumb because you just pick the OP's squad, find someone better than a random bench player, and then your squad is automatically "beating" theirs.

No, I'm pretty sure OP meant you cannot use the same player twice within your own squad (e.g. using '04 Garnett AND '13 Garnett). Will wait for him to clarify, though.

I always assume that is a given when constructing a team not to use the same exact players in different years. Like, that isn't a rule that needs to be said, it's a given--like playing 5 players on the court at once.

In that case I take OP's team, replace Ariza with 2020 Paul George and 2007 Baron with 2013 Curry 8-)

Would tend to take that rule as a given. I understand your reading though, given the phrasing. I think "regardless of version" is saying "I'm taking all KGs off the table, not just '07". My assumption would be (and had been) it's "can't use my players" ... I've never particularly got that type of thread myself but that would be my guess and to each their own.

Yeah, I understand why you’d interpret it differently, but that’s not how I took it. OP can clarify, since it seems that there’s definitely a split of opinions on what OP meant.

If you’re right, I’d just swap out 2005 Manu for 1994 Reggie Miller, swap out 2014 Kawhi for 1991 Scottie Pippen, and swap out 2011 Garnett for 1986 McHale. I think 1989 Drexler was a better player than 1994 Reggie Miller and would be a good pick, but I’d pick Reggie instead of him for this team so that my team has the ability to still run lineups that’ll really spread the floor (i.e. putting Reggie, Bird, and West on the floor at once).

I'm going to stay within a 2 year radius of 2014 so that my team has a time travel and culture shock advantage.

PG 2013 Curry/2012 Nash
SG 2015 Green/2015 Korver
SF 2016 Kawhi/2015 Iguodala
PF 2014 Dirk/2015 Millsap
C 2012 Duncan/2013 Garnett

Swap Garnett out for Bogut or something if I can't use him. Basically a mix of the two best non-LeBron franchises in the time period, plus some white guys who can shoot.

82' Kareem is a good cheat for this exercise.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Meant you cannot re-use the players I did regardless of the version.

Quality. Your bench is stacked. Perhaps gives your team advantage over mine.
