If Bob McAdoo had played in the 2000s instead of the 1970s where would he rank among that decade of players?

Think he was better than Nowitzki.

Better than Dirk? Nah, not nearly as good a shooter and his early-career raw averages are rooted in MPG more than anything. No better a defender, not a better passer, didnt have more range, worse at the line, etc.

But separate from Dirk, McAdoo would certainly have been very good in the 2000s. Probably still be a 24/10/2 kind of player, and his style fit the era well.

McAdoo was a shooter and probably the best of his era for his position. He was a better defender than Dirk and actually gave rim protection, which Nowitzki for his height should have had.

McAdoo took shots and had some range. That doesnt mean he was anything like Dirk. There was a laaaarge difference in shooting ability between the two.

McAdoo was an excellent shooting big for the 70s. If he developed today, he would almost certainly shoot a lot of 3's; if he developed in Dirk's era, he would probably have them as an occasional weapon but not his go to. Dirk's midrange was a more consistent go to shot than McAdoo's and is the key to Dirk's value. McAdoo is the better post scorer and defender, Dirk probably the better passer. McAdoo's best 3 years, he's probably clearly superior to Dirk's best 3 years, the difference is that Dirk continued to play and improve for his whole first decade in the league while McAdoo tailed off after the first 4 years, got traded around, became known as an attitude problem, and ended as a role player.

Far more like A'mare (league prototype power forward playing mainly at center) than he was like Mashburn, except maybe attitude.

No, he wasn’t a better defender than Dirk. There’s more to defense than rim protection and for the great majority of Dirks’s career, he was a plus defender.

Don't have too much time, but:
1. McAdoo wasn't a better shooter or player than Dirk.
2. McAdoo was probably a better defender than Dirk at his peak.
3. I think he'd peak around 2012 Durant level.

He would fit great, maybe worse shooter than Dirk but better athleticism. However, I think personality wise he might be slightly frustrating, like somewhere between Tmac and Harden.
