How many championship teams since 2000 would you have as clearly better than the 24’ Celtics? Like if they were to matchup H2H you would have them winning in 4-6 games.
2023 Nuggets
2022 Warriors
2021 Bucks
2020 Lakers
2019 Raptors
2018 Warriors
2017 Warriors
2016 Cavaliers
2015 Warriors
2014 Spurs
2013 Heat
2012 Heat
2011 Mavericks
2010 Lakers
2009 Lakers
2008 Celtics
2007 Spurs
2006 Heat
2005 Spurs
2004 Pistons
2003 Spurs
2002 Lakers
2001 Lakers
2000 Lakers
How many (and which ones) here are clearly better than 2024 Celtics?

Swap Tatum with 2019 Kawhi and the Celtics are the favorites over even the 2017/18 Warriors

I think it’s really just the 2017 Warriors. Maybe 2001 Lakers as well, though they’re a bit harder to gauge because their playoff dominance wasn’t matched in the regular season.

Also the Lakers team would just be dumbfounded on how many 3P shots the Celtics would shoot.
It's easy to forget a massive portion of Mainstream Media and Basketball Minds (Like RealGM) were under this guise that no "jump shooting team" could win a title.
The reality was no team was shooting enough 3's to be considered a true jump shooting team until the mid-2010s.

In an era-relative sense, I think the 01 Lakers and the 17 Warriors are definitely better teams. However, in a direct H2H matchup I don't think any previous champion is *clearly* better than the 24 Celtics, though I do still think the 17 Warriors would beat them. The Celtics just have a level of switchability/spacing combined with multiple shot creators that almost all teams from the past would not be able to handle in a direct H2H matchup, in my opinion.

Only the 2017 and 2018 Warriors.
All other series are Celtics being favorites or a pick-em.

Clear favorites I'd say for sure the 2017 Warriors and probably the 2001 Lakers.

I feel people do this with every time a team wins a chip (2023 nuggets vs 2020 lakers was hilarious)
2020 lakers may slam, 2017 warriors win in like 5, 2018 warriors, 2019 raptors maybe

Weird, I really only have the 06 Heat, and Kawhi Raps losing to the Celtics. Truly they are not impressive and would get bounced by 95% of past champs in 6 or less.

This Celtics team is not equipped at all to handle Shaq. Shaq would foul out the entire front-line of Boston in a quarter. How are they going to play 5-out when Horford & KP are saddled with fouls after banging with Shaq? It would be a dunk-fest by Shaq. How are Tatum, Brown, True, and White going to hits 3s when they just banged against Shaw on a double team?

2000-2002 Lakers would present a huge matchup problem for the Celtics because Shaq's presence required teams to hire additional 7 footers to deal with him. Without that luxury Celtics would get destroyed inside, especially since Porzingis was injured. Remember, Horford used to be a PF back in the 00s. Ain't no way he's guarding Shaq. Cs would need additional option of hiring 7 foot FAs.
2017 Warriors vs 2024 Celtics would be a great matchup to see and clearly Warriors would be favored, especially with Porzingis hobbled throughout the finals.
Other than those 2 teams, 24 Cs can deal with any other champ.

Yeah nah when you go too far back the amount the game has advanced just changes things lol
It’s not players being better it’s just strategy and stuff 2000s ish wise, if you go too far back it’s both ofc

People do do this stuff every year and it’s usually not justified, since obviously almost definitionally a title team in any given year is probably not too far away from a median title team. But the 2024 Celtics were a 10.7 SRS team that had no problem in the playoffs at all (albeit with a pretty easy road overall). There’s good reason to think they aren’t anywhere near a median title team.

Besides the teams mentioned, I'd like to see how a healthy 2013 Heat would fare against these Celtics.

If Porzingis is injured I like the 2020 Lakers. 2023 Nuggets with Bruce Brown and Uncle Jeff is no joke either but I fear Murray would lose them the series getting clamped by Hrue and White. I think 2001 Lakers has enough wing depth to make the Celtics struggle. And of course the 17 and 18 warriors

They didn’t face a real team and literally everyone kept thinking they were gonna lose to the wolves or nuggets because they seemed fake as hell only to somehow play 3 teams that wouldn’t make the playoffs in the west (given injuries) and then the mavs lol
If they win next year, sure they can get hyped up, but no one should seriously think they’re like a top 5 team ever or something because of their regular season SRS and because they played like 1 decent team in the playoffs lol

2016 Cavs could do it. Lebron in GOAT mode, anything is possible.

This seems like evidence of people being dumb more than anything lmao. Yeah everyone thinking DEN/MIN was the Finals is well documented, despite Boston being clear favorites in Vegas the entire time for a reason.
