Sidenote: '91 was the only season where the Orlando Magic played in the Western Conference, so it would be interesting to see if the '91 Magic would make the '91 playoffs under the current Play-In Tournament Rules and potentially go through the first three rounds of the Western Conference before facing an Eastern Conference team in the '91 NBA Finals.

Scheduled Play-In Tourney Matches that i've booked:

1: '91 Knicks vs '91 Pacers - at Market Square Arena (winner gets the Eastern Conference's 7th seed to take on the '91 Celtics, while the loser has to face the winner of the elimination game between the '91 Bullets v '91 Cavs)

2: '91 Bullets vs '91 Cavaliers - at Richfield Coliseum (losing team of this game is eliminated and the winner gets to face the loser of the Knicks-Pacers game for the 8th and last playoff seed in the Eastern Conference to take on the 1st seeded '91 Bulls)

3: '91 SuperSonics vs '91 Warriors - at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Arena (winner gets the Western Conference's 7th seed to take on the '91 Spurs, while the loser has to face the winner of the elimination game between the '91 Clippers v '91 Magic)

4: '91 Clippers vs '91 Magic - at Orlando Arena (losing team of this game is eliminated and the winner gets to face the loser of the Sonics-Warriors game for the 8th and last playoff seed in the Western Conference to take on the 1st seeded '91 Trail Blazers)

A couple questions:

You say best of 7, but also modern play-in rules - which is very much not a best of 7. So ?

Do you really want to adjust teams to all in their prime? That could really skew the makeup and relative quality levels.

First impressions:

Indy, NYK and Cleveland are all good teams (how did Cleveland only win 33 games?) Washington way off. Go back and forth on these teams.

GS gets 7th and Seattle 8th in the WC still. Unless adjusting to all prime which pushes Seattle to 7th with GS 8th.

I just fixed it to where it's just the upcoming individual matchups themselves. What I do find interesting is the '91 Magic being in contention for the Western Conference's No. 7 or 8 seeds, and having to get past the '91 Warriors and/or '91 Sonics to do so.

As for how the '91 Cavs only won 33 games, they lost Mark Price to a Torn ACL, and they had to bring back Darnell Valentine to fill the void by having him start the most games at point guard. But add a fully healthy Price in the mix, and the '91 Cavs (with both Price and Valentine) have a shot at bumping either the '91 Pacers and/or '91 Knicks out of the '91 playoffs.

I don't see the Magic as credible threats to either GS or Seattle. Even with rookie Payton and young Kemp. It's an oddity that they were in the WC but they also weren't good, or even really mediocre. Even if they pull the one game upset (and they're more likely to lose the 9-10 game then get the 8 seed) they aren't remotely competitive against Portland. You'd need to add prime Shaq to that Orlando roster before the Blazers even realized they were in a series.
