1994/1995 Rockets vs 2018 Rockets

Post#1 » by giordunk » Fri Aug 16, 2024 4:27 am

2018 Rockets are regarded as one of the better teams in the modern era that never won a championship.

Who would win in a best of 7 series? The homecourt advantage is that when it's your home game, the game is played and officiated with the rules of your era (If it's Hakeem Rockets homecourt, the game will be played with 90s rules, if it's 2018 homecourt the game is more pace and space). Homecourt advantage is decided by a coin flip.

I find that people are split on whether the 94 or 95 Rockets team was better so you just choose the one you think matches up better with the 2018 Rockets.

Hakeem Rockets: Hakeem Is goat level and In many eyes top 10 player (not me specifically) ... But looking at this Hakeem Rockets take the cake, Hakeem on a whole other level, It think Hakeems 95 team better :)

The 2018 Rockets would wipe the floor with them. Imagine the 2018 Rockets with a shortened 3P line or the 1994/1994 Rockets with a longer 3P line.

When comparing 94 Rockets vs 18 Rockets, in a real head to head series, the 18 Rockets would demolish the 94 counterpart, probably in a sweep. That doesn't mean much because that's just the consequence of doing teams from the past vs teams now.
Relative to era, I think the 94 team was better by a small margin.

Even relative to Era, what is the argument for the 1994 team?

2018 is easily the better team. Both relative to era and in absolute terms but hakeem is the best player in either team come the playoffs and showed how differential he was lifting a team

2018 are easily better and better relative to era.

Arguably the best iteration of a team to never win the title.

Harden and CP3 will inevitably choke like they always do. The mid '90s Rockets were the definition of resilient.

So yeah, I'm taking the Hakeem Rockets.

now imagine Harden playing on the perimeter with 1994 officiating and the step back is called a travel.

I'll take Hakeem in a sweep.

Harden doesn't need to step-back. He can just pull-up from 25 feet uncontested.

Under '90s rules he'd be a glorified Vernon Maxwell without the defense.

Modern ball has gotten alot better. Hakeem is buried under a barrage of 3s. 4-0 sweep for the 2018 Rockets, every game by 20 points or more.

It depends on whether the 2018 Rockets are hot or cold from three that series.

That's the thing with being over reliant on three-point shooting. When it's falling, you'll blow the other team out. When it isn't, it will be tough sledding.
