Not enough healthy seasons to rank anywhere meaningful for me. He was exciting and talented, but he has 2.5 meaningful seasons in his career. 3.5, if you count his rookie year.

Man I really miss the old days, not just b-ball but in everything lol. You probably won't see me much on here come regular season, so just taking most of it now.

Aside from a ranking, Penny was a joy to watch. He was so springy. Just crazy athletic. Wonderful passer. Bit of a post game, decent J, quality handle. Greeeeat court vision. He and Shaq 190% could have titled in 95 if the supporting cast hadnt been useless, or later if he had remained healthy.

And Lil Penny Sprite commercials were jokes!

I think the poll should be much more like:

top 50
51-60
61-70
...
top 100
< top 100

as he has no case for the top 50 at all, so it would look much more reasonable. I can see him in the top 100, but he's not like a top 75 player. Like mentioned he had 2-3 years when he was good and maybe 1 elite year and that would be all.

It’s meaningless to rank him because his career was derailed by injury. If you want to rank guys on potential, he’d be top 10-20 all time. He had it all: Size, jumping ability, speed, quickness, great handles, the passing gene, he could shoot, had range etc. The only negative in my opinion was I always thought he was a little fragile mentally but he had it all. Put him in the Bill Walton, Bernard King tier of unrealized potential.

I loved the Shaq/Penny Magic as a kid and he was iconic, but he only really had 3 high level seasons and even at his peak he was like maybe Ja Morant/Tyrese Haliburton level? He’s definitely not one of the top 100 players of all-time.

Potential top 25 player (all-time) that had his career cut short. That's it. You can't rank him because he never peaked.

As I recall that very short period, the Magic may have been the most popular team in the league among fans under 30 for a space of about 2-3 years. They absolutely seemed like a dynasty in the making. Then it was just over.

Maybe as a commercial pitchman, depending on how much you liked the Lil Penny commercials. I personally loved Grandmama, the Bird/Jordan Horse commercials, and Kyrie's Uncle Drew commercials but not sure if we should have just a peak commercial ranking or one that looks at whole body of work and has a quantity factor.
