Regardless of possible injuries and replacements, can Luka actually miss All-Star nods this season? Judging by early performances, I'm not sure he's in front of any of SGA Steph Fox Edwards Booker Kyrie, given his inefficiency.

Realistically barring injury, no. He will dominate fan voting, he will get nods from coaches who are terrified before playing Dallas how are we going to defend him. He can be hurt among players because many of them are anti-Euro or they don't understand how good his offense actually is and they see his poor defense.

But his reputation is such that he would have to be terrible to not be in the game. The league wants its most entertaining stars in the game. And when Lebron picks him every year that carries weight as well.

Is it possible he's not been one of the 30 most deserving players? Yeah, but not likely. He's not making shots right now. Kyrie isn't missing shots right now. Yet the Mavs have played better with Luka on the court than Kyrie. He is still driving the Mavs.

All-Star voting isn't that granular when it comes to players of Luka's stature. If he's healthy, he's in.

Regarding fan voting, Steph is also popular and we cannot take out of the equation the possibility that the fans will actually prefer SGA over him given their level of play and the fact that the SGA is also established right now.

The popularity of Luka in Europe might also be a factor though

There’s a saying that you only have to deserve your first couple ASGs or so, and once you do that, you’re in for good. It refers to the popularity element of the ASG, why the bigger name almost always wins the tiebreak no matter the season he’s having.

Simply put, unless he is so injured that he won’t even be eligible to play in the game, he will be in.

He'll be one of the most voted players.

Also it's not like he's having a bad season. 28.1 PPG 7.6 RPG 7.6 APG on 55 ts% is not a bad season. He's just not been as good as in previous seasons, but we're just 14 games into the season... I think he'll go up on the advanced stats. Might not pass the 60ts% but willl be at least around 57.5.

Hope the Mavs go nowhere tough, and Luka has to take a step forward and be more serious. We'd just benefit as viewers to see a waking call on Luka. For as good as he is he has the tools to produce all time seasons... not what he's been producing (already tremendous, but not as good as he can be).

He's rocking 28/7.5/7.5. I doubt any of the voters will be paying attention to his percentages or his negative rTS. It's all rep and emotional voting, no actual evaluation of performance to a meaningful extent.

But also it should be this. The all-star game isn't supposed to be about the 30 most deserving players. It's a showcase for the game. The NBA has done a great game making all-star weekend a really big advertisement for their sport. Luka is one the league's showmen. He should absolutely be in the game.

Where he should suffer if he doesn't play better upon return from injury is all-NBA. He shouldn't just be penciled as 1st team the way he has been every year. That's the spot he needs to earn.
