Team Rare Names vs Team Common Names

Post#1 » by durantbird » Fri Mar 14, 2025 6:09 pm

Team Rare Names

(These names were quite rare, at least before those players' rise to prominence)

LeBron James
Kobe Bryant
Kawhi Leonard
Shaquille O'Neal
Wilt (Wilton) Chamberlain

Team Common Names

(Players with common everyday names)

Jerry West
Michael Jordan
Larry Bird
Kevin Garnett
Tim Duncan

Some guys I left out:
- Earvin "Magic" Johnson - Earvin is not common, but not as rare as the other names
- Wardell Stephen Curry - Stephen is common, but Wardell isn't
- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - Kareem is not too common in US but quite common as an Arabic name, his former name Lew/Lewis is common
- Hakeem, Dirk, Giannis, Nikola Jokic... - their names are not common in US, but common in their countries

Of course in the common department some names just didn't make the cut (KD, Nash, CP3...). Maybe should've included Bill Russell.

Yeah kind of borderline as he has two names, one is common and he's known by it, the other isn't. Edited anyhow

Could include Dwyane Wade on the rare names team given the weird spelling, probably doesn't fit better than Kobe or Kawhi though

Good mention. Earvin spelling is also weird, but those two names are kinda common in principle

As a member of the first name last name club i really want to see how That squad would do...in fact they might crush everybody!

Chris Paul/Isiah Thomas
Michael Jordan/Dwyane Wade (Swap out Wade for Ray Allen if you think Wade is more of a conventional last name than a first name)
LeBron James/Kawhi Leonard
Tim Duncan/Horace Grant (big drop-off here but you can do a lot worse than Horace Grant as a backup!)
Bill Russell/Dwight Howard
And see basically them trick bitches get no dap
And see basically Redman album is no joke
And see basically I don't get caught up at my label
Cause I kill when they **** with food on my dinner table

Team Rare Names really needs spacing and would have really benefitted from you "cheating" Wardell Stephen Curry onto that roster. Cest la vie. Honestly, I don't think Shai is a common name, maybe swap Kawhi for him.
