Rose easy. He was crazy good and going to win a title IMO with "meh" supporting help IMO before his knee injury destroyed his career in the first round of the playoffs. I wish we could have got to see a Peak Rose/Butler together with Thibs as coach eventually. That would have been scary.

That Bulls team was always a one of the "what ifs" stories of the NBA. There was a potential dynasty there with a few big moves

That "meh" supporting help went 18-9 without Rose... Noah/Deng/Korver/Boozer/Gibson is a monstruous cast by 2012 standards (and they weren't winning ****)

Nothing about Rose's support cast was 'meh'.

And they soon added Jimmy Butler. Yeh, a real 'meh' cast.

by eminence
A) Don't see any reason to argue '25 as Brunsons peak over '24.

B) Rose's cast was great. I'm not 100% sure Rose was more valuable than Deng.

C) I'll still go Rose.

Sure, but he was still a very good role player, and was an all-star by year 4.

Yes thanks for admitting my point. A ROLE PLAYER. The point is, a Rose/Butler hitting their primes around the same time and peaking with good role players supporting them, how would it play out

Prime Rose/Butler/Good Role players/ with Thibs coaching is a definite potental dynasty that we didn't see

Pop quiz, how many all-star games did those 'role players' make? Deng, Noah & Boozer are multi-time all-stars. Calling Rose's support cast 'good role players' is a stretch when you have 3 all-stars and 2 perennial 6th man of the year candidates (one of whom also made an all-star team) before you even include Butler (and the actual elite role players they had, like Mike D, Hinrich, etc)

The Bulls were an ensemble cast, and Rose's MVP remains one of the worst of all-time.

At no point did I say Butler was God as a rookie. In fact I explicitly talked about him being an all-star in his 4th year.

I'd say Brunson. He's a better shooter, better overall scorer, and at worst a comparable playmaker (albeit with a different style).

Derrick Rose easily.

Jalen Brunson as a no. 1 option for a team with championship aspirations is a pure waste of time. He doesn't have the physical tool needed to be a true no. 1. He generally struggles to beat his man off the dribble in the Playoffs against more tactical defenders, he struggles finishing in traffic in the Playoffs. He has limited court vision for a Point Guard, likely due to his size. Far too much of his game is reliant on BS Foul Grifting(inorganic non-basketball movements).

Derrick Rose has All-Time level explosiveness and down-hill speed, which given a more advantageous roster construction Offensively Rose would be very difficult to handle in a Playoff setting. Would far rather have Rose as a no. 1 for any team attempting contend for championships.

lol, that cast+thibs fielded a defense that was more responsible to the bulls success than rose.
