I was far more impressed by Mobley and Nance than Daugherty, I'd have them 1 and 2.

Chones played defense but like Varejao, didn't do much on the other end. Daugherty, Ilgauskas, and Hot Rod Williams in some fashion are probably the next three. Then Allen, Love, Chones. Thurmond and Kemp were pretty washed; Hill and Thompson more limited players without the defensive impact of Allen and Chones; they are the bottom group.

Go watch the 1975-76 ECFs. Chones was out with a broken foot and Thurmond at the age of 34 played 38 min/g against Boston and was an absolute stud on defense. They lost the series 4-2 but Thurmond held a 27 year old Cowens to just 39% shooting and Boston shot only 42% for the entire series, primarily because of Thurmond.

Up and to that point in NBA history Thurmond that year played the most minutes in a season's playoffs by a 34+ year old C other than Chamberlain or Russell.

I would just list the guy I actually watch some playback or game live when they were in The Cavs to be more sure in my Estimation

I may have been unfair to Love, I've watched him as a reserve for too many years now to remember how good he was in Cleveland (though his Minnesota days I do remember).

I mean I think probably saw more of prime Daugherty than anyone on this board and to me he was slightly better than Nance who imo was kind of passive tbh. He didn't have that Mahorn in him and really that was a criticism of those Cavs teams in general is that there was a softness to them. Daugherty was the focal point of those teams on offense. Nance was a very good #2 or #3 option but the offense tended to run through Daugherty down low or with Price creating or running the pnr with him.

Offensively, definitely. Was never impressed with Daugherty's defense, Nance was the focal point on that end and combined with his finishing skills, that puts him over Daugherty for me. Mobley is similar defensively and in an era with less bully ball post players plus he's more aggressive on the offensive end than Nance and has more range so I put him first.

Daugherty did have good size though(really bigger than Ewing, Hakeem and bulkier than Robinson) which I think he could leverage in post defense and rebounding. Obviously there's not much of a gap between Daugherty and Nance but for me I go Daugherty.
