Zubac was the far better defender.

I'll take Towns, even though Zu was very underrated.

Zubac was 25.1 pts/100, 19 TRB/100, all while playing DPOY level defense.
Towns was 34.7 pts/100, 18.1 TRB/100, with below average D for a starting C.
Yes, what Towns did fit well in the Knicks scheme. But on an average team, I'd rather have Zubac.

Dunks & Threes' Estimated Plus Minus (EPM) & Estimated Wins (EW) 2024-25
Zubac: +4.1 EPM (10th), 12.8 EW (5th)
Towns: +3.4 EPM (26th), 11.0 EW (15th)

It depends entirely on what I'm starting with. If I've already got one or two high-level scorers, Zubac is the obvious choice. If I'm starting from scratch and I need a #1 scorer, it's probably KAT.

We've seen that movie, though. Wouldn't it be better to chase a perimeter star and have Zubac in place to anchor the D and work around your outside guys? Obviously, opportunity is what it is, but we know that Towns doesn't work as #1 and has to eventually move to #2 anyway, and doesn't win a lot in the interim.
