Two of the more overlooked Small Forwards from the 2000’s in my opinion. Both were mainly known for being great defenders. Team success aside, who do you think was the better all-around player?

Wallace was unequivocally a better player than Prince. Prince had some lank/athleticism, was a good spot up shooter, and was a versatile (if a little overrated) defender.


Wallace was pretty much better in every facet other than 3 point shooting. Without thinking too hard about this, it’s him.

Basically think of all the strengths and playstyle of Wolves KG, put that in a SF body, that was prime Bobcats Gerald Wallace.

On-Off in his 5 year prime sample (2008-2012) averaged out at around +8. He left the Bobcats and they immediately became the worst team of all time. Energy, selflessness, true 1-5 switchability, in the modern game this guy would be the centerpiece of an entire team's defense. Incredible in transition both ways, which in today's league would add 4-5 points per game thru sheer force of will, much moreso than the glacially placed aughts. Amen Thompson mixed with Draymond Green. Not an exaggeration one bit.

For my money, he's right there with Kirilenko, Artest, and Kawhi as the best defensive wings of the century.

Prince was a hugely valuable role player who typified the growing 3&D archetype and legitimately clamped a prime Kobe in an NBA Finals so don't think I'm disrespecting him. I just view Gerald Wallace as one of the most special and unique profiles to ever grace this league.

On their era? Oh, it's Wallace. By a margin. Today, not so sure.

Wallace being the best player on playoff team was more impressive in his time though in modern day his lack of shooting wouldn't work at SF, he would probably be full time PF and a bit worse than Aaron Gordon.
