Which duo would you rather build around in todays NBA?

The team with Lebron. It's not like the talent and fit of the other 2 is so superior anyway, which it's need to be to even consider not taking LeBron.

Depends on the surrounding cast, I guess. Who's stopping Kareem here? At the same time, who's stopping LeBron here?

Gun to my head, I'm going with the latter, I think, but it's very, very close, only because I think Malone is the worst option here on the court.

Which version of LeBron would you most want to pair with Malone is I think an interesting question. Presumably a later vintage where the outside shot is more of a threat? Or do you just go peak athlete Bron attacking the rim and dumping off to Malone down low?

The one where you have an elite outside shooter and a mismatch waiting to happen. I don’t like two similar players if I can help it. Why? You can just switch the LeBron-Malone PnR and force them to iso all day. It would be effective, but it wouldn’t be a supernova offense, it’s kind of what we saw with the LeBron-AD Lakers. KD Kareem is at another level.
