Who would you take, both are terrific young talents, both will get payed close to the same amount, both very close to the same age, both appear to be the future of the West coast guards along with CP3. (Lets leave him out of this though)
Who is it?

Deron right now, but just because hes more of a point guard, Roy is a combo guard if he starts playing Point then this could change because he is a great talent but right now williams does more.

Deron...
SG easier spot to fill

Deron Williams without a question. Deron proved himself last season and in the playoffs. You can't have a good team without a good point guard.

PG & C are the most difficult roles to fill, so I think Deron is the easy choice. And that is no disrespect to Roy.

I agree wholeheartly... as good as Roy is and projected to be, he plays at position that there is an abundance of great players.

Deron Williams very easily. Roy's injury concerns way too largely on my mind in this comparison. Let me put it this way Deron is relatively injury-free, so even if he were slightly worse than Roy instead of slightly better like he is right now, if I were starting a team like the thread title suggets I'd take him over Roy anyway just because of his health alone.

well, I don't see Brandon being a top tier wing, while Deron will most likely be a top tier PG(if he isn't already).
PG is harder to fill also... Deron for me.

Is it snowing at Satan's crib? Becuase I thought it would before you and I agreed on anything!

I would take Deron as he's shown more than Roy, but this might change in a couple of years.

You should have left it at "I don't see Brandon," because if you don't realize that he is a top tier SG, then you're out of your mind.

Brandon Roy is not on the level of say Kobe, Wade, etc.
Therefore Brandon Roy is not a top tier SG.

Obviously.
Roy, imo, is a top 10 SG, and considering there are ~eighty SGs in the league, Roy would qualify as top tier.

No, I don't comment on guys I don't see, I see enough of Brandon to know he won't be a Kobe, Wade, Lebron etc.... Thus he won't be in that category.

It's all well and good to say that Deron, as a point guard, is more valuable than a shooting guard. Thing is, Roy runs the point for much of the game, too. What you call a player is less important than his impact on the game.
I'll take the better player, no matter what position he is said to play. Right now, I'm not sure who the better player better these two is. It's awfully close.

I love your top tier reasoning
When people say top tier they mean usually don't mean top 10.....actually they never mean top ten. It's not even based on a specific number. Most people differentiate between tiers, usually, when there is a significant/noticeable drop in level of play.

Kwame Brown is a top 20 PF/C, and considering there are ~eighty PF/Cs in the league, Kwame would qualify as top tier.
Did I do that right?

I take Roy. Right now he projects as a SG but his versatility gives the Blazers options. He can play in the backcourt with either a PG or SG so it doesn't matter that a PG is harder to find than a SG whoever B.Roy plays for has whatever they need. If the chance to get a PG comes up you can do that, if the oppotunity to get a "Top Tier" SG arises you can do that too. Also B.Roy allows you to play an undersized SG where Williams gives up to much size . Williams is a great talent and an incredible PG but Roy's versatility is even harder to find.
