I have been trying to think of this lately. The kind of guys I have the least love for are your prima donna scorers who, if they aren't scoring, give you almost nothing else. I have been trying to think of examples who had high profiles, but virtually every player ever considered 'great' gave you more than that, but I am sure there must be SOME.

Anyone think of any? The best I've been able to come up with would be Reggie or maybe Rice. Guys like the Big Dog always come to mind when I think of the type of player I mean, but he was a pretty good rebounder.

So, if you were trying to think of a (insert name) All Star Team for guys who did nothing but score, what are some names you'd consider?

Edit: Kiki Vandeweghe? World B. Free?

Rice definitely was the first to come to mind.

Bustnani. But he is not a star.

Nique could board and Gervin grabbed just enough (over 5/game with some pretty decent seasons on the boards) to not qualify, imo, but he's also someone I've considered.

Pete Maravich? Michael Redd?

Adrian Dantley came to mind, but he was over your rebound mark.....

Stackhouse in his younger years comes to mind. Umm, Jeff Malone?

Benard King might fit here if the rebounds arent to high. Cant say im super familiar with his D but afaik he really wasnt much of one.

first person that came to mind. Dantley may have got some pretty nice overall stats (other than scoring), but for whatever reason their was little substance to it. He was to me, just an efficent scoring machine.

Kiki Vandeweghe is a good call as well. For his size, positon, and the amount of minutes he was on the floor (and considering his team was one of the fastest paced teams of all time), all he really did was shoot/score (at least thats the only thing he did well).

Jeff Malone, a 20+ppg scorer that only got 2assits, and 2boards in 33+minutes per game.

5 rpg may be enough for a swingman, but considering bigmen marks not much exceeding this are pretty pathetic. Hence I'd like to add Tom Chambers to list of nominees. But No 1 should be Lloyd B. Free, whom you've already noted.

Dell Curry, Mahmoud Abdur-Rauf?

. . . a lot of big scorers have decent assist numbers just because they have the ball in their hands so much. As for the rebounding, an average of less than 8 for a wing forward or less than 6 for a guard who played a lot of forward like Gervin shouldn't disqualify you.

Dantley was a below average rebounder for a forward (which he mainly was), however, if drawing fouls is a separate skill, he was superb at that as was Free (especially for a jump shooter!). Look at him, Mark Aguirre, Alex English, Bernard King, Nique for a set of superscoring contemporaries. Gervin, David Thompson, Geoff Petrie, Phil Chenier, Austin Carr, are some big guards who scored 20+ though again, most were decent rebounders or ballhandlers though none played much defense.

You mean disqualify from the list of one-dimensional players we're talking about? If so, I agree.

As you've said, guys like Petrie were at least decent passers/ballhandlers - while as to Dell Currys of this world, the OP talked rather about first offensive options, otherwise we could add many role players, like Eddie Johnson or Microwave Johnson.

Fair enough Myth . . . not many guys though have zero talent outside shooting, I think the list should just be guys who were shooters with below average defense who weren't outstanding at any other aspect of the game other than scoring. (outstanding defined at significantly above average per 40 compared to their peers positionally).

I'd have to say Kiki, Dale Ellis, Glen Ricem, or Reggie Miller.

I have a hard time considering Stackhouse because he wasn't really that good. The year he averaged 30 he was horribly inefficient, and this thread said who is the best.

still going with Allan Houston. He was the first option for the Knicks, a 2 time All-Star. He avg'ed over 17ppg, but just 2.9 bounds at 6'6, and only 2.4 assists. His defensive numbers weren't great either, neither avg'ed 1 steals per game, in 12 seasons.
