C - Andris Biedrins / Raef LaFrentz
PF - Dirk Nowitzki / Al Harrington
SF - Michael Finley / Jason Richardson
SG - Stephen Jackson / Nick Van Exel
PG - Steve Nash / Baron Davis

Coach: Don Nelson

EDIT: only Nelson's two most recent stints, i.e. GSW and DAL

How far would this team go? Would this team win a title? Just assume for the moment that everybody is in their prime, and that they play ultimate run and gun Nellie Ball.

I cant see that team not winning a title, as long as Baron is comfortable coming off the bench.

OK, I forgot to specify that I only wanted his two most recent teams. Don Nelson has such a looooooooooooooong coaching career, difficult to limit the amount of players then.

assuming they're in their primes and play nice, that's a title right there

I still don't think there's enough rebounding and defense overall, and good defensive teams would be able to effectively slow down Nash or Dirk. As they have been numerous times already.

Shaq/Kobe Lakers and the Spurs would edge them in a 7-game series.

I think they'd make the WCF, but lose to one of those teams.

Actually today (with that specified team)? Well, similar, just no Shaq/Kobe Lakers. If they did get past the Spurs, I think Boston's balance would win in the finals.

I'd go like this:

PG: Steve Nash/Baron Davis/Devin Harris
SG: Jason Richardson/Michael Finley/Raja Bell
SF: Josh Howard/Stephen Jackson/Jerry Stackhouse
PF: Dirk Nowitzki/Dennis Rodman/Eduardo Najera
C: A.C. Green/Andris Biedrins/Raef LaFrentz

Everybody in their prime :). More balanced and tougher. That's a hell of a rebounding team.

I think that type of team, would have the best chance to get out of the west, and then quite possibly win a title. Legit title contender.

I really think that Nelson would go ahead and start Davis at the 2 with Nash.

I think a starting lineup like:

dirk
jackson
howard
davis
nash

with biedrins beeing the backup PG is what nelly would like to implement

That team would not win a title. It does have a large amount of talent, but it is concentrated in two areas, scoring and shooting. Nelson's team lacks rebounders and defenders and would struggle in games were their not hitting their shots.

People forget that a prime Raef LaFrentz was actually a pretty good shot blocker and rebounder, and Dirk averaged 10+ per game last year, and Finley, Jackson, and Davis are all pretty good defenders...

I think 'ship.

dampier played for nelly the last season nelly was there, if nelly was conventional he'd start him, seeing how its nelly though they'll play dirk at C and 4 sg's/pg's

Raef was never a good rebounder, and although a decent shotblocker, he was a terrible over all defender.

The team would be plenty of fun to watch, but Nellie ball is still Nellie ball, and it won't win you any rings.

Can they beat Phil's last two stints?

PG Michael Jordan/ Derek Fisher/Steve Kerr
SG Kobe Bryant/ Ron Harper/John Paxson
SF Scottie Pippen/ Toni Kukuc/ Robert Horry
PF Dennis Rodman/ Lamar Odom/ Horace Grant
C Shaquille Oneal/ Andrew Bynum/ Bill Cartwright

Sorry someone had to. Try Jeff Van Gundy or even the Van Gundy brothers as co-coaches.

PG Wade/I'm lazy
SG TMac/sorry
SF R Lewis/got bored
PF Dwight Howard/Patrick Ewing
C Shaquille Oneal/ Yao Ming

Nope. Too balanced and versatile offensively for Nellie 'ball.

I'll do JVG 'ball:

PG - Derek Harper/Chris Childs/Charlie Ward
SG - John Starks/Allan Houston/Luther Head
SF - Tracy McGrady/Latrell Sprewell/Shane Battier
PF - Charles Oakley/Larry Johnson/Kurt Thomas
C - Patrick Ewing/Yao Ming/Marcus Camby

I think T-Mac would be forced get some more energy to his game consistently with that kind of group around him. Rather than the sleepy/passive/smooth type of act he has most of the time, which is fine and different, and cool at times, but also think it's effected him negatively to an extent.
