JR Smith vs. Francisco Garcia
Not looking for another Garcia-Balkman like thread but want to see who neutral fans think is better.

depends what you need. Scoring and play making, JR.
Defense and decision making, Garcia.
But you need to put this in context. Who is better now? Who will have a better career? Who would you take on your team? Who would you build a team around?
In the end, I have little doubt that JR will end up being the better player. JR Smith is putting up far better numbers than Garcia did his rookie year (and he is in a tough situation right now), and is still a good deal younger than Garcia was his rookie year.

I was asking neutral fans, not homers who is better now.
But I really fail to see how scoring and playmaking goes to JR. Garcia is averaging 14 pts a game right now, where even when Smith was starting he was averaging less than Garcia. And JR is not a playmaker by any means, more of a streak shooter who can explode for 15+ pt quarters.

Are you comparing their rookie years? If you are then thats irrelevant.

You asked people to say why they would pick JR, and I let you know.
But since Im apparently not allowed to post in your holy thread, ill make this the last.
What is clear is you have no idea what play making is, which makes me question you knowledge of the game of basketball.
And no, I wasnt comparing their rookie years, but i was putting it context to compare their potential. Look, Garcia has shown the ability to put up so-so numbers on bad team. JR has put up very good numbers (17 ppg in less than 30 mpg) on a good team. Ill take that over what Garcia has done this year.

ohh waaahhh. Stop cryin.
Sorry I could not realize Smith's amazing playmaking ability 1.5 APG average.
And for you to compare their rookie years is not fair to Garcia as Smith took twice as many shots as Garcia while shooting 39%.
And Smith has NEVER averaged close to 17 ppg.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

the last time (season) smith started he was averaging 16 points a game in under 29 minutes, on 44/39/84 shooting percentages. he was also doing that alongside a guy who was averaging 32 points a game. he's currently scoring more per minute than garcia is, despite playing alongside the #1 scoring duo in the league.
i'd say he's a better scorer than garcia. plus its not like garcia's blowing anyone away with his playmaking abilities, so it basically goes to smith by default...and because of his higher assist rate, and better a/to ratio. he's also filled in as denver's backup pg for a couple stretches this season and did fairly well.

As a Kings fan, you're just wrong here, and are using poor judgement.
Because he stood up to JO? Garcia gave him a hard-foul under the basket in the 4th qtr, and JO didn't like it. I don't think this means Garcia has attitude problems at all, and seeing the guy his whole NBA career - he simply doesn't have an attitude problem. He hasn't been a problem in the locker room or off the court.
Aside from that, he just played the game. Which is what Garcia was doing, before JO decided to confront him on a tough foul at the basket for a put-back. JO is the one who was not right, and overreacted to a justified decision by Garcia. Especially JO being a veteran who has been in a lot of playoff series, and tough games against Detroit and Miami.
I don't recall anything else out of the ordinary that involved Garcia in that game.
Garcia's a confident, tough player, and plays with energy. Regularily gives good fouls on lay-ups, and he should. It's nothing new or occasional. I don't think he's ever gotten a flagrant, either. Maybe one.
Unlike with JR Smith, which there have been numerous issues with him in his NBA career. With the Hornets and Nuggets, in obvious and true fashion. One just recently in the fall, and was just an idiot for doing what he did (from 1 or 2 reports). He knew it afterwards, and payed for it.

Actually, being a streaky, but respectable threat from 3P has been one of JR Smith's consistencies. He does need better shot selection, but that doesn't mean he should stop shooting or significantly lessen taking threes.

I don't want either on my team, but if I HAD to choose one it would be smith.
So wait, you dislike Garcia because you believe he has attitude problems but you're a fan of Smith because he's athletic?
btw, JO and Garcia didn't have any residual bad feelings towards each other and were shown conversing and laughing a few plays after their incident.

JR Smith statistically the FAR better scorer, averaging about 4 more points on MUCH better efficiency. Even pace-adjusted, Smith is the higher volume and efficiency scorer. In terms of passing, I'd say they're about even, maybe Smith is a tad better. Rebounding, Garcia is better, and defense its not even close. Garcia is a much better defender.
In my opinion, this race is too close to call. Whatever Garcia lacks statistically, JR makes up for in stupid. Whatever Garcia lacks in potential, JR makes up for in really really stupid.

Give me a call when Garcia contributes to a winning team. Or when his team is better with him on the court (or at least in the + with him on the court), or when his team improves defensively when he is on the court, or when his opponents PER is below 19.
