Josh Smith is way too high on that list for your title (all-around at SF), he's not that good out in space, better inside and on help; Marion is a better space defender and general defender at the 3 though Smith may have passed him as a defender at the PF slot where Marion can be posted.

Also, Rudy Gay is too high as well, I'd move LeBron ahead of him at this point in their careers . . . . and Anthony doesn't belong even at number 15.

Ron Artest.

Proven, high-level man-defense against multiple positions (naturally varies in what players and amount of time, for bigs and PGs). Good team defender. Ranks high in steals (doesn't gamble too much), gets an above-average amount of blocks, very decent rebounder. Blocks jumpshots around semi-regularily. Has a unique combination of strength, size, and lateral quickness.

Having better, more consistent interior defense would only make things easier. As it does for anybody.

Only area where's probably not as good as others is chasing around quick guys like Hamilton and Ray Allen. Though, with his lost weight compared to the past two seasons (down from around 260 to mid 240s), he may be able to do that better. Against Detroit and Boston he usually guards Pierce and Prince a good deal of the time, anyway.

Andrei Kirilenko shouldn't be in the top 5 IMO. Because his man-defense isn't quite a strength, compared to off-the-ball and team-wise.

How the hell is Carmelo Anthony on the list while Luol Deng isn't?

Smith plays PF about 85% of the time, so I wouldn't even include him for this discussion.

His help defense is alright, but his man defense blows and he routinely gets abused in the post.

He should be on the list, but not at #3. We are talking about "best all-around," right?

He's a great defender he just looks bad right now because he can't concentrate on covering his guy when he is the only help defender on a team where the rest don't believe in team defense.

Best ALL AROUND defender? Easily Ron Artest.

Carmelo Anthony should not be on the list.. You need to watch him play.. He doesn't even try sometimes, he just watches his man go by. He makes no attempt when he should rotate to a guy on pick and roll. Its like his legs freeze.

I think its very hard... If i can pick a slew of players, ill go with AK47, Prince, and Artest..

Which is why I at him being #3 in a "best all-around SF defender" list.

Artest and SJax 1 and 2.

Artest and Bowen should be at the top... and why is Hedo Turkoglu not on that list? His defense on LeBron pretty much single-handedly won us a game earlier this year.

Granger should be on this list. He is pretty quick laterally and has good instincts from what I've seen. Not flashy but one of the better man defenders @ SF

Ron Artest absolutely abuses guys. The guys hands are like rocks, and if he gets them on the ball while he's covering someone they lose it. Most guys who get steals get them by gambling on passes. Ron Artest just rips the ball from cats. If he had a brain he'd be a top 5 player in basketball.
