Who are the top 5 lockdowns at the SG position on your all time NBA All-D team?

Some thoughts from me:

Moncrief - All-NBA. All-D. All Class and the undisputed perimeter defender of his era.
Dumars - Defensive Part 1a of the meanest backcourts on the meanest team in history.
Jordan - Strong, quick and had excellent anticipation. Rumours are he could also score a bit.
Drexler - the glide was big, athletic and fast. Rarely overpowered, rarely blown by.
Havlicek - the energiser bunny who would be hounding you for the entire game, down the race and into the lockerroom without being out of breath.
Kobe - Athletically gifted and with the focus and footwork to trouble the best perimeter defenders in the league.


Any more?

WTF no Jerry West? West is number 3 for sure.

I never watched any earlier than the ending of the finals when the Sperms beat the Pissedons, so I don't know anyone other than Kobe on that list, and he don't deserve to be there.

Are you kidding me Kobe was a beast in his defensive prime, heck he still is when he wants to be. This year he's been stepping it up because he's had more offensive help.

Just because Kobe had to carry a team offensively doesn't mean he's a bad defender, MJ was considered a bad defender in his first couple years when he had to do all the scoring.

Yeah he is okay, but top 5? There have to be 5 other SGs that were great defenders that brought it EVERY night, not just when they feel like it.

Well Jordan didn't bring it on that end EVERY night, why should Kobe be treated differently.

3 players I always liked were Blackman, G Wilkins and the late Bobby Phills. Kendall Gill could have been a great defender.

are the first to come to mind (no order). Not seeing a reason for Kobe/Drexler to be thrown out there, they definitely aren't.

He didn't have to. Because he was MJ, he could play defense in the 90s like Bowen currently plays D.

How about Doug Christie in his prime? Larry Hughes? Rip Hamilton? I guess they don't really rank among this league's top league defenders i suppose. Obviously MJ is the greatest defender when he has it going on, but like most other superstars he puts it on when it matters the most and only then. I'd say overall I'd go with a defensive specialist who's sole job is to play lockdown defense all day long, even if their best stuff isn't as great as Jordan or Kobe's best stuff.

I'll go with Moncrief.

For that matter what about the likes of TR Dunn who managed to start for years with a Ben Wallace level offensive game; okay, seriously, I'd go with
1. Moncrief
2. Michael Cooper
3. Jordan
4. Kobe
5. Dumars (size matters or he'd be number 3 ahead of Jordan)

Dennis Johnson would be next on my list, great defender mainly at SG.
Jerry West could be in there, I only saw him at the end of his career.
Alvin Robertson gambled too much for my taste though he did it well.
Jerry Sloan was like Ron Artest, great against the big, physical guys, but not as quick as some. Havlicek and Bowen were SFs mainly.

I like that list. I might have Jordan a spot or two higher, but the 2 guys up there were amazing as well.

No idea why you have Scott there, but leave off Cooper who was a lot better defensively and played on the same team at the same time. Coop was a DPOY candidate year in and year out. Scott wasn't, and while solid defensively has nothing to do on a top 5 list like this.
